Re: Death of another Activa
Was hoping to start in on stuff this weekend but now I have to do an oil cooler on the wives ford f#*@ing focus. More money has been spent on that found off roar in ditch than it cost for me to purchase 2 Activa's. Starting to get mad but have to keep calm. And then remind her how much was spent on it when she gives me verbal about sorting my Activa's. Think I will get away with maybe spending around £300 pound on parts.

Re: Death of another Activa
Just got back from cleethorpes and i do mean just. Before i went i managed to get the rear Activa ram off the silver fox ready to swop onto blue thunder. Now i have a wiring loom issue. Whilst at cleethorpes had a none starting or anything problem called AA traced it to a possible ignition switch but when i sourced one from a citroen specialist at grimsby it still didn't work. One of the guys came out to the caravan and tested the wiring and said it wasn't the switch but more than likely a blown wire in the main loom at the front of the car. He reckons this used to be a commonfault. Now i have obviously got a spare loom on the silver fox but don't want to rip that out if don't have to.So i am asking if anybody has a spare loom they want shut of.

Re: Death of another Activa
I would open up the loom and put it replacements lengths myself. Even if I had to take off the bumper and stuff to help with access....loom looks like a big job to replace, others WILL shoot me now

Re: Death of another Activa
My S2 activa has an 'open' front loom following an immobiliser issue. It's a pug of a job to open and idemtify all of those wires which run in the harness under the radiator. Fortunately for me, as a very.very, very last resort i reinitialised the cph from a lexia and all just linked itself up again like magic. So .. my harness is still just hanging there [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND SMILING EYES]

Intriguing... What is causing wires to fail in the front loom?

Re: Death of another Activa
Wire rot and the fact that the harness is moreorless wide open to the elements being upfront under the rad and the 'protection' itself just serves to hold water. A couple of wires in my harness are looking in a bad way. I started trying to label each one when i had an immobiliser issue but even with a large backlit magnifier it proved too daunting a task. A lot of the identity codes were illegible so even if i'd carried on with the task i'd still have to guess at the end of the day.

Re: Death of another Activa
Thanks for all your help. Will look into what to do during the week. Is it true the front loom goes up either side of the engine bay and plugs in.

Re: Death of another Activa
How "Universal" is the loom, anybody know ?....we all will face this at some point if not already there.
My wires having been dry, are in good shape, the loom protective plastic tube however is just bits of flake if you even touch it.
It just disintegrates faster than a Mummy in daylight !
I have spent so good time re-wrapping the damaged areas......

Re: Death of another Activa
Well at the end of the month old bluey is having her leaking Activa ram sorted and is going to have new rose bush also, not from citroen. But the power steering bush from the 406 or something I saw it posted on her so thought I would buy a couple. Was so going to do it all myself but don't have all the right tools to do it or the time. Then got talking to the mechanic who does the work vans and he said he would be interested in doing the work. He says he likes a challenge and it gives him something to do as most of his work he gives to the lads that work for him as all that is straight forward repairs.

Re: Death of another Activa now double trouble
What is the right oil for an Activa that has 140,000 miles on the clock halfords is saying 0w40 fully synthetic. Is this right as it say's that for nearly all the xantia's.

Re: Death of another Activa now double trouble
I would say any 10W40, 5W40 or 0W40 would be OK, there aren't really any bad oils out there. Synthetic or semi-synthetic if you are fussy.
