Its great to see you back posting Jim, curiosity compels me to ask what the TT stands for in the cycling world. I know it is for Tourist Trophy in the motorcycling so wondered if it is the same?

curiosity compels me to ask what the TT stands for in the cycling world.

James has got it Mick, Time Trials... Otherwise known as the race of truth... You against the clock over a measured 10, 25, 50 or 100 mile course... You go out and ride as fast as possible and drain your tank totally... Huge fun If you're not about to fall off your bike from exhaustion and then throw up at the end you did not ride hard enough

A variant is the Team Time Trial where a team of up to five race against the clock... The third across the line determines the time... Team tactics are to constantly rotate the leader whilst other team members drop back and rest in the draft of the leader until it's their turn on the front again... Turns on the front can be as short as 30 seconds...

The French have a lovely name for Time Trials: contre la montre. Literally 'against the clock'

Cycle Time Trial racing is very British. We did it as mass start racing on the road was banned in the UK for many years so Time Trials came along to circumvent this... All very secretive in the old days with the racing courses known only to the competitors via codes... As a hangover from those days we still use the old course codes... Last evening we raced the F5z/10 course

These days, club TT races on the roads are fully legal and the police are always aware...

Familiarity phenomenon has manifested itself many times in the pages of Picture(s) of the Day and elsewhere on the FCF.

Another one today....what are the chances of this one
Here is the picture. Part of the Sainsbury delivery today, random box the beer bottles were in, the contents bore no relation to the box. Never heard of the brand or noticed the box before.

The object which confirmed a "familiarity phenomenon" incident had indeed occurred

Less than 20 minutes previously, I had a very interesting conversation with a friendly Scotsman called Roddy who, after starting out from Arbroath was making his way along the long distance walking route of St Oswald's Way in Northumberland and ultimately heading for France. Roddy was a very interesting character and striking in appearance, a young man, wearing the tartan more in a battle dress form rather than a prim and proper dress kilt, and as I discovered carrying his harp to play for his supper or his accommodation along the route.

Oh yes...and back to the familiarity phenomenon bit.........he was doing the entire walk barefoot.

When was the last person you saw walking barefoot on the pavements footpaths highways and byways of Albion, and was it the same day Sainsbury's chose to use a Barefoot Wines box to pack your beer bottles in

Noticed Citrojim had joined the throng this afternoon so I let the random hand dig up one of his tens of thousands of posts. It chose this one from Jim's early days from page 2623 out of 2631.

Once you have sampled the delights of a Hydraulic Citroen nothing ever feels quite the same again... I used to drive my Pug 205 in preference to my old 405 but now the Xantia is the car of choice on every occasion. The poor old Pug is relegated to fun car for when I feel the need to let off a bit of steam, get a crazy smile on my face, shake my eyeballs out of their sockets and recall just what a brilliant car the Xantia is after driving it so much it becomes ordinary.

So if anyone still has a Xantia, or has had a Xantia how about putting a picture of it up on POTD on this very day. 100 points for the first (original photos only please) who isn't me!

That gets the 100 points from me Mike Nice not to draw a complete blank on my appeal. Wasn't expecting an avalanche, but a lot of members viewing the thread will have a Xantia pic or two lying around from previous ownership even if they don't actively have one now, and it really isn't that difficult to join in.

I bought this for £100 on ebay and loaned it to my Aussie visitors for six weeks, the did five thousand miles in it all over the UK from Cornwall to Glasgow, Liverpool and London. Picture isn't the best it was taken through my front window on a mucky weather day.
