It certainly is Robin I learned that one from watching my gas man and implemented it yesterday!

I can’t find a ‘finished’ photo but I remember it was a 10 hour job sorting that mess out to - copper, clipped, sleeved through walls, isolation valves, sealed holes all required before a clean and polish ….I couldn’t make a living at it ….takes me far too long to do it properly

From 40 years cycling and 30 plus years of motorcycling, I can tell you there is no item of clothing that's truly waterproof

I've been rather unwell for a few days and for longer than is usual for me. Things got sufficiently bad for me to seek medical help today...

The doctor diagnosed concussion following a rather nasty bump on the head last week that resulted in a lot of blood and me seeing a few stars... I seemed OK at the time but things rapidly deteriorated a few days later...

I'm on a strict regime of rest until things improve with a warning it may not be quick... The worst part of it all is the advice not to drive and a ban on doing anything strenuous, including running and cycling...

Not quite in your league, Jim, but I'm currently undergoing treatment for Lymes disease Gawd knows how long I've had it, but it became noticeable when I started getting vertigo for no apparent reason. I'm basically having to run at half speed at the moment... but worse than that - the antibiotics mean no alcohol for a month Life can be so cruel.
Oddly, they test the blood samples for it at Porton Down.... so I can truthfully say they've been experimenting on a bit of me there

Concussion can happen after 10 days of a head injury, I'm assuming it wasn't caused by your new kitchen cupboards! And Bobins, antibiotics means no alcohol is an old wives tale...or so I tell myself.

If only it were true with these ones - unfortunately I think they're quite heavy duty pills and come complete with a long list of Do's and Dont's. One of the side effects is making the skin more susceptible to UV and sunburn. Guess who might have got sunburnt whilst welding yesterday ?

We ought to have a section of the forum where we can go and discuss our various ailments, aches and pains - though the first person to mention their piles has to buy everyone else a drink

How on earth did you manage to whack your head that hard Jim? Have to say, I had noticed that the forum was a bit quiet, especially in the early afternoon when you are usually first up and posting (well it's afternoon for me ).

Best wishes for a complete recovery - as some of our sports people have found, concussion recovery time is very unpredictable, and as you well know, doctor's orders are to be taken seriously. Sounds like you are back in lockdown - hope you don't go stir crazy!

Bobins, I'm very surprised to hear that you have Lyme disease (I understood it be more of a N American issue), but a little research quickly confirmed that you have Lyme-carrying ticks over the whole of the UK, in grasslands as well as woodlands. When we were living in the UK (early '90s) we did a lot of walking with the kids, including some Orienteering in woodlands - I never realised the risks we were running!

Oh gosh Robin, that's rather horrible. I know a bit about it as I was tested for it when trying to determine the cause of all my issues getting on for 12 years ago...

Here's to a full recovery very soon and that the temporary temperance will be just that... When you get the all-clear that first drink is going to taste a bit good and many more will be needed to fully celebrate

Yes, it was a few days after when it all started to go a bit pear-shaped Ryan... I was surprised the full effects can take a while to reveal themselves... There's a lot of myth and many don't appreciate how delayed it can be...

It did indeed happen in the kitchen... A moment of carelessness and...

For me it's like you abstaining from alcohol Robin... It's torture and cruelty... I've already had to withdraw from a number of events, including one of my very favourite duathlons on Sunday

Luckily, I can still volunteer at parkrun as it's within walking distance and there's coffee and cake on offer afterwards...

Thank Alec The doctor has given me a lot of reading on the subject and a good lecture! Going stir-crazy is a big risk but happily I'll have a lot of company around me to keep me from going totally mad...

It does feel like a kind of lockdown. Deja-vu in some ways as during the last one I was recovering from injury... At least there's no restriction on seeing and spending time with people this time... I'm not infectious

It never used to be much of a 'thing' over here but is getting more common these days : 2-3000 confirmed cases p/a. I'm no stranger to Tick bites and would normally expect 5-7 a year, but this year I've had to unscrew 12 of the bu99ers from me, with the first two being in January I blame Greta Thunberg global warming

Lymes disease is well known about here. The ticks live on the wild small deer. One of our cats is a tick magnet. The doctors send you for a blood test if you show any of the symptoms which can range from a round red circle around the bite to partial paralysis. I know of a good few people who have been diagnosed. As I said the doctors send you for checks straight away so it's generally caught very early.
And yes Bobins, the secret to remove them is to unscrew them DO NOT pull straight, it leaves their head in. This method should be made common knowledge.
