Funny how variable the quality of altinators are...

My v reg xantia altinator went to 295,000 miles. It only died because lhm leaked onto it...

Our 08 207 hdi 16v is currently on 217k and orignal altinator.

Indeed, they can be very variable Paul. Pix ate hers at 36,000 miles and took out a battery due to how it failed... The AX one should be fairly straightforward to resolve... Looks like it's worn brushes...

The only functional thing remaining now is my washing machine I need that more than anything, the amount of laundry (mainly running gear) I get through,

Happily, the new kitchen has arrived

Bluebell has been temporarily displaced from her nice warm, dry and comfy garage until the kitchen ins built... Poor little thing, she got absolutely soaked yesterday

I'm reduced to microwaveable ready meals for a few days as my cooker is now in bits and along with the last remains of the kitchen, ready to go to the tip

Finding some suitable ready meals is a bit tough for me as I don't and won't eat chicken and so many seem to be chicken based

Polly the Tardis is doing a great job of being a van Even the old kitchen sink is in there

Today we will be procuring tiles, floor coverings and all the other bits we need to finish the job...

OK. My attitude is that I would much rather tell people about something and be told "Thanks, but I don't need..." than hear "I wish somebody had told me...".

Washing machine connection and outside tap both often (3/4?) BSP thread hence can get the washer outside fed from outside tap. Nice big current though when heating so it'd show up a below par extension lead.
My aunty's washer lived outside under a tarp for at least a fortnight whilst she had utility room flattened and replaced. A way of keeping functional but our the way?

A properly waterproof cycling sock sounds like putting your foot in a sandwich bag! Is it possible to prove if the moisture is leaking "in" (through the sock) Vs "out" (through your skin!)

MattBLancs I was thinking of testing one for hill walking - first pouring water on it from exterior and if that feels OK, could it be possible to fill the sock up and see if it leaks out? For £12.99 from ALDI I’ve bought a pair ….

Like wearing rubber gloves on your feet Personally, I'd rather have wet feet and I often do when winter trail running... I just cover my feet in a suitable water repellent cream and it works well for me.

Take a shower wearing them That's how I wash very wet and muddy running shoes and socks I then dry them on a radiator I especially chose for the purpose when I had my heating system rebuilt...

From 40 years cycling and 30 plus years of motorcycling, I can tell you there is no item of clothing that's truly waterproof
