It is not that Activa is uncomfortable, but its standard spheres struggles over short changes in the surface, where an XM is more relaxed. With longer surface unevenness, it made little difference. Indeed, it would mostly be on cobblestone surfaces that the change would be thoroughly potent. Although, while we had no cobblestone nearby to test, we did have some rough country roads with plenty of good old lack of maintenance.

Also, if you want to talk about a lack of 'road surface feel', try an SM or a CX. While I love the DIRAVI power steering system, it's definitely not meant for power steering (if you catch my drift, wink wink). Although, I do miss owning a CX. I need another CX in my life (a proper one though!). But I digress.

One point on tyres.....I had 205/15 Conti Prem Contact2 on the car, I was NOT happy with them as I found them to have (I think it was that) soft side walls....maybe this is why people prefer the 17 inch wheels/tyre combo.....the Pilots (stiffer walls) did improve this, the brand new ones I have waiting to be fitted will confirm this or not.....I am eager to see.

Currently, I have 205/55 R16 Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance, which I am quite pleased with. However, and I must undermine my own suggestion, I don't have that much experience with different tyres. My other car has Michelin XAS tyres and are hardly useful in comparison. I only went with those Goodyear tyres due to their reviews and grip in wet conditions. As well as the fact that Michelin tyres have a tendency to become very stiff very quickly.

205 pepperpots?

I don't think any PSA wheels look ordinary. The best you could do is steelie + wheeltrim it!

steeleis look good with oversized rims.

What you really want, in my opinion, is Activa alloys but in a a size or two up, i really like the Activa or VSX alloys.

Banded steels, done properly look good. Otherwise they just make a car look unloved. I looked at lots of cars recently and a missing trim, missing set of trims or a shiny set of cheap trims obviously fitted for sale is just a big put - off for me. It shouts to me that the previous owner wasn't particularly careful about kerbs or potholes !

Makes me wonder, whether I should upgrade my callipers on my Xantia. Which are you using?

Standard V6/Activa ones with Brembo vented disks and Mintex pads.

I have some grooved/drilled disks but will save those for any mountain trips or track days, the vented ones are totally fine for my normal use and have never faded yet on roads.

It surprises me still how little I need to use the brakes no matter what my speed, just the odd speed correction. I have never felt the need to be on the brakes all the time as it does not fit with my road driving habits.
