Bluebell took me to Somerset and back this week in very fine style... She ran superbly and never missed a beat

I know I'm not a fast and furious driver but even given that, her fuel economy is legendary. I'm not sure what it is exactly but going on how much I needed to fill her tank of finest E5 I reckon she's not far off averaging 60 mpg on a long trip...

Not bad for a 33 year old car equipped with quite a basic Solex fixed-jet carburettor

One thing I had to do before the trip was ring Adrian Flux and up Bluebell's limited mileage insurance policy to something rather less limited... I was rather worried the trip would exceed the mileage allowed and I hated to think of the consequences, from an insurance/liability point of view, had Bluebell and I been involved in an incident... Not worth taking the risk...

I was greeted with the most excellent customer service and a surprisingly small increase in my premium... I know some think Flux is the spawn of the devil but I cannot fault them. Having said that, I've never had to make a claim...

Keen observers of Bluebell will know her nearside door is missing a rubbing strip...

But not for much longer A resident of this very parish found one on eBay and it was waiting for me last evening when I arrived home. It's the right one I have no confidence to make a decent job of fitting it - it's glued on - and happily, that task has already been arranged to be done by someone rather more skilled in such matters than I

The eBay seller, Current & Classics, has a load of NOS Citroen stuff in their shop. Worth a look. They despatched my rubbing strip very promptly and it arrived a day earlier than expected/advised...

Today we ran the Paggers Carnival 5K along closed roads just ahead of the float procession...

It's a massively well loved run and we are cheered on by crowds lining both sides of the route

The perfect weather and the great atmosphere saw me run my fastest 5K for some considerable while

There were two runs taking place 5 minutes apart - Serious and Family...

Huge fun last evening riding a round of the Team MK Monday TT race series It was very windy at times... Very!

This is the first time this year I've ridden as I'm usually timekeeping at these events... This week and next I've been granted a rest from that so I can ride again next week

A most excellent FCF lunch was enjoyed yesterday with Mick and Mike at one of our very favourite venues down in deepest Hertfordshire

In the evening I ran a 10K race around Willen Lake and the Ouzel Valley Park in Milton Keynes - one of a monthly series...

I don't know what the Crown and Sceptre slipped into my food but I ran my quickest 10K in a while and that was with having to negotiate a number of gates and cattle grids out in the parkland...

The photo is a bit grainy as it was almost dark and the rain was coming down in glass stair-rods! It rained heavily for the whole race and we all ended up like drowned rats but do we care? No, we just love it!

An expensive day yesterday... My central heating boiler is in a bad way. The three-way diverter valve is leaking and has leaked back into the actuator head which damaged it. I already knew this from my own checks.

Whilst looking to fit a new head and valve the engineer found the heat exchanger plate well and truly furred up due to no limescale reducer being fitted at time of original installation.

Given the cost of those three bits new for a boiler now pushing 12 years old is not far short of 50% of the cost of a new boiler it was a no-brainer really. I'm having a new A+ efficiency boiler fitted with the added bonus it's good for the 'new' hydrogen-mix gas when it comes along... I'm also having considerable work done on my heating system ready for the winter...

And to ensure all that lovely new heat stays in my house and does not contribute to keeping the road outside warm, I'm having all new windows and a new front door fitted along with significant repairs to my conservatory.

My old windows have several 'blown' units, are draughty due to broken hinges and are generally past it, being a good 30 years old... The conservatory as a whole may be past it. Every unit is blown, the roof leaks and the sliding door is not at all happy...

Then I'm having a new kitchen, full decorating and new carpets...

Spending the kid's inheritance...

I may dust off my guitar and take up busking in order to recoup some of the cost of all of this

It's got to be done Mick. My house is in danger of falling down and it's full of tat and rubbish! I've been putting off doing anything for 20 years and I can't any longer... It's now more a hovel than a house... I've got the money and want to spend my last few years on this planet in warm comfort knowing my house is good and all is tidy and neat.

I'm also cogitating a new car and scrapping my Saxo when the MoT expires, or chuck one more MoT on it and flog it if it might pass with minimal work... Big changes. Bluebell will stay with me always...

I'm about to commence a big clear-out and declutter. A skip will soon appear and much is headed for it unless claimed... Lots of Xantia spares and vintage radio stuff may be heading to China to become baked bean tins, tacky plastic toys and new MG cars...
