Yes indeed, in my defence I don't do a lot of mileage though.lexi wrote:I know another type of oil that is going to be dirty,.........that engine oil is in there over 13 months

Now that I don't think that's the case I'll be treating it to an engine oil change and probably a flush as well, hopefully in a few weeks time if I can find somewhere flat and level to do it as I'd like to do the gearbox flush/additives/2nd change and engine oil flush/change/filter all together as one job.
PS for anyone skeptical of that Wynns hydraulic tappet additive I threw in some weeks ago now, the tappets are still just as quiet as the day after I put it in. Not perfect, there is one noisy tappet maybe two but its silent compared to the 24 noisy tappets it had before.

I don't think I'll put any in this time though, instead I've decided to add a pre-change flushing agent then just fill up with new oil, and possibly look at the more general purpose lubegard engine oil additive instead of the wynns hydraulic tappet one.

Simon, for Pete's sake (whoever he was!) get that bloody engine oil changed!!!! You could have done it when you were changing the gearbox oil...
Did you see this?
Dr. Tranny's Instant Shudder Fixx
Just what you need!
On the subject of additives, just the Fluid Protectant
Personally I wouldn't use either but grab the problem by the balls and overhaul the 'box.
As I say, it has to be worth a try and added to new LT it's hardly likely to cause a show-stopper.
The debate about Dexron in the 4HP18 as been aired may times on Club-XM. The conclusion is that it's an old-school 'box that was designed to use Dexron II and that's all it should use. Dexron III is not recommended for it and has been implicated in causing it harm. Read it all on Club-XM if you with to study further...
Sticking valves are a possibility but very rare in the HP20. I have seen one instance of a broken valve spring but that was on the pressure regulator valves and my research suggested it broke due to wild oscillation of the valve caused by low oil pressure as a result of a plugging filter...

Re: Xantia V6 broken exhaust (update: and rough low rpm runn
Well I have been well and truly told off about the engine oil now...

I couldn't do it with the gearbox oil Jim as moving house has drained our funds down to nothing again this month...
and I made a judgement call that gearbox oil to try to help a shudder and other gearbox gremlins was more urgent than the engine oil, however I promise I will do my best to change it in June.
All I need is "permission" to buy it,
and somewhere flat to do the job...
The Dr trannies shudder fix stuff is basically just a big dose of friction modifiers, I think I'm better off using the Platinum alone, which is a combination of that and the Red additive. Regarding the 4HP18 I wasn't refering to Dex II vs Dex III, but rather the fact that LT71141 was listed as original oil spec for 4HP18's used in some brands of car. That was what had me puzzled, not Dex II vs III.

No they're not. I advised my daughter when asked why I don't buy a new or newer car that if I did I'd have a Berlingo. She recoiled in horror...lexi wrote:Yeah, but them Berlingo's are a cert for pulling the women![]()

Surely the lack of a V6 engine and/or sphered suspension makes it a non-starter for you Jim?CitroJim wrote:No they're not. That's as I see them Adam... I'm also heartened to see they are available with a necessity for me - an automatic gearbox on the end of the 2.0 HDi...addo wrote:No, it's kin to the 205/Saxo/306 families, so they can actually be a fun, spirited drive whilst also being practical.
The V6 isn't such a problem Ben as it's should be possible to drop an ES9 in there but the lack of proper suspension is a big stumbling block at the moment...Ben82 wrote: Surely the lack of a V6 engine and/or sphered suspension makes it a non-starter for you Jim?
Anyway, it' was one of those hypothetical discussions as my Xantias are staying firmly with me, as is the XM, for as long as possible..
It doesn't stop me having a great liking for the 'Lingo though... I see it as an update on a car I drove drove as a teenager and one I really loved - the Renault 4...
