Today I have finally retired the old laptop I used in my lounge that originally ran Microsoft Vista - badly - and for the rest of its life ran various Linux distros... The last one being Mint...

The laptop must be getting on 20 years old, did very well and is still working fairly well although the only (old) LTS version of Firefox I could run on it was struggling at times...

I'll keep it as a museum piece

I hate IT and computers with a passion so I're replaced it with one of these...

A Google Chromebook... It came free with my new mobile phone...

My 'best' laptop must be as old as that too Jim. I have had it for a good ten years and bought it second hand, ex pro machine.
That has run on Linux Mint most of the time I have had it, as with this one, discarded by youngest grandson, seduced by the i.

I had 6 laptops until I gave one to Peter with the lexia so now just 5. An old Toshiba in the garage with ford diagnostics for two of my maintenamce fleet and 4 hps which have all done stirling service, I XP, 1 Vista. 1 Windows 7 and the current 11 model. I have never upgraded windows, just got a new laptop when the 'in use' model's keys lost all labelling and the battery had given up. The current one is of course the best simply due to natural progress in tech, which actually means it has the most unnecessary features!!

In my 'Office' I'm still running Windows 10 on a very old Tosh laptop that dates from around 2010... It runs the Chrome browser fairly well and and runs VLC to look at bike camera videos and that's about all I need. It'll go on until it dies or Windows 10 becomes unsupported...

I really am allergic to all things computer, it gives me thumping headaches and makes me ill so I have absolutely no interest in it at all. To me, computers are simply a tool, no different to washing machine or microwave. I do all I need to do in Google so if a device can run the Chrome Browser that's all I need.

On my phone I use only the apps. I need to and are essential, which in these modern times, is quite a lot... Banking, parking, WhatsApp and so on.

I updated my laptop from Win 8 to 10 when it became available. Took all day! My keyboard keys still have their legends but all are now lovely and shiny and well work-worn... I love a nicely run-in keyboard I've known Tosh laptop keyboards fail so have a spare one in stock... They are not expensive nor hard to swap...

Remarkably, in my Tosh, the battery is remarkably still good. Not bad for 15 years old...

I'm still migrating to my new mobile phone... The Samsung Smart Switch was not as smart as I'd have liked... All the data went across fine but only about 40% of the apps transferred. I understand why...

For diagnostics, I have my old faithful ELIT. It needs no pesky laptop It's only any good for Cits up to around 1999. It does all I need on my Saxo. Not much use on my AX though

I bought the machine that I am typing in now (a Lenovo Ideapad Z710) in September 2013 The date is easy to find because it was a couple of weeks after Windows 8.1 was released and many vendors were clearing stocks of Windows 8.0 machines. The manufacturer probably restricted price reductions on new-in-box products, so this one was sold as "damaged packaging" at a substantial reduction, but when it arrived, the damage was a very neat knife cut about 25mm long in just the outer layer of the cardboard box, well away from anything important.

Anyway, it has had a fairly hard life, being used for multiple software development projects on a personal and commercial basis. I have worn out 2 battery packs, 2 keyboards, one fan, had a memory stick fail, a power adapter go up in smoke, and replaced the motherboard. Actually I am back on the original motherboard because the replacement failed after a couple of years, and the original motherboard has a weird self-healing fault. It will sometimes refuse to turn on, and will resolutely remain in the off state until it is left sitting for several weeks or months, after which, when the battery is recharged it will work normally for another year or so before the fault occurs again (this has been ongoing for about 5 years, hence the first motherboard replacement). Sadly it is now nearly impossible to find another replacement motherboard. I say sadly because I really like this machine, it is still reasonably fast (it was top-of the-line when new). I even bought a new high-spec machine to replace it about 18 months ago, but although the new machine is faster and has a better display, I keep coming back to this one.

And.... Breathe It's done... All data and apps. migrated from old phone to new... What a game

I needed to go for a run to clear my head after so many hours of solid work...

Phew! Now to zap the old one...

A Samsung A13 Mick... Not a particularly sophisticated one but it suits my needs admirably... I'm not very demanding of a mobile phone in the same way I'm not demanding of a laptop. I spent quite a while deleting all the bundled apps. from it so all it has are those essential to my needs...

I've had Samsung phones for years now and my old Samsung A50, the first I had, is still going strong as my 'burner' phone... I use that one with a PAYG SIM when I'm out running. If it gets nicked or damaged it's no great loss...

All that one does is take pictures and allows me to Listen to the radio via BBC Sounds whilst on the run...

I'm very pleased with my Chromebook. As a tool to do a job I need it to do it's magnificent

You could sharpen the pencil with the sword and make a point

A great bike ride today Lovely weather and very sunny... But don't be fooled - the east wind was strong and brutal at times

A nice hot coffee and a sausage roll, fully vegan of course , in the cafe we visited during the bike ride soon warmed us up

It really has been a good day with some lovely running before the bike ride

Maybe I need to eat more sausage rolls to cure that Anaerobic Shortage
