Spent all day doing a clean install of the new Linux Mint release.
In the past it has always take about forty minutes including downloading and writing to a USB dongle.

Multiple attempts and one declared that the HD was faulty.

It was a faulty USB dongle :(
Used a Sandisk one and it all fell into place like clockwork.

Just as well I have two laptops as the attempted install with the dodgy USB wiped the HD of the first one.

After a bit of tea spillage I found the left click button on the laptop mouse pad wasn't working. The whole experience of trying to get round the loss of function of the left mouse button was like operating a keyboard with boxing gloves on.

No USB mice lying around in drawers or anywhere else to use as a replacement, but came up with a bit of creativity.

Made the right mouse button the primary one, and hey presto all the functions of the left were available on the right button.

Lost the former right functions but at least the laptop has returned to being usable once more with the important left functions now being on the right. :-D

I dropped this in the EV battery thread but it is really more at home here, although it isn't really an operating system either, a bit more skynet than that.
At some point during his investigation, however, Lemoine appears to have started to believe that the AI was expressing signs of sentience. The engineer, who has written about his experience, says he repeatedly tried to escalate his concerns but was rejected on the grounds that he lacked evidence.

Anyone know the best (i.e. cheapest) place to buy Microsoft Office for Mac? Son need it now his academic licence has run out and I haven't had anything to do with Microsoft for decades, only run Linux.

As far as Linux goes, just updated both laptops to most recent version (linux Mint Vera), done online although I usually download and do a clean install. Took about twenty minutes and carried on using the laptop while it upgraded in the background, two-minute reboot and all was up and running again, even opened the three browsers with the same tabs logged in to.

He has looked at those and is concerned about their validity.
