Trouble is that it means another trip to Whitby to deliver them. I normally only go there for his birthday which was in August.

You can have amazon deliver them directly to him Steve. I have 5 delivery addresses on my amazon account and it works very well!!

I did think of that, have a few of my own. I don't know his address though. I know where he lives, he's been there since the seventies and it is the only place I go in Whitby.
Excuse to go and see him of course.

It's been a cracker of a day

It started with a fantastic Forest Runner 10K run in Salcey Forest - one of my best 10K runs for a while and run in the most beautiful forest setting...

After that I got well stuck into Bluebell's seized front calipers and had a good measure of success at freeing off the seized sliders and re-lubricating them with the proper stuff...

The discs are almost unworn an came up well

The pads too are serviceable and both discs and pads will be good enough for the MoT which is the priority... Once the MoT is done and I can properly re-register the car and I will then send the calipers off for a full professional refurb as I can't move the pad retaining pins however hard I try and also, the bleed nipple - unsurprisingly - is stuck fast... She's worth it...

Flushed with the success there I then started to reinstall the cambelt and fit the modified hybrid crank spacer and drive sprocket...

It all looked good...

Until I tried to tension the cambelt!

Spot the difference...

The original early TU sprocket is on the right...

You couldn't make it up! Small detail differences between what are essentially the same engines which make them totally incompatible...

So back to square one... I will now redouble efforts to find a correct replacement flanged spacer but for now - and to get her through an MoT - I have a plan which does not involve experiments with early and late engine hybrids...

I'm keeping shtum for now but will reveal all if it succeeds...

Meanwhile, plenty more to be getting on with...

Shouldn't be more than a day's work for you Jim to borrow the Saxo engine to get an MOT and get the paperwork moving

I could move the flange between cars as and when needed Richard... Almost do-able as as I have Sian's Pixo living here with me on a permanent basis now so never short of a car..

And... I've had so much practice recently I can slip 8V TU cambelts on and off in my sleep

It looks like I may have sourced a flanged spacer

I'm going to collect a complete 1.1 TU bottom end tomorrow that should yield my needs and be a generally useful source of spares...

Meanwhile, I believe Bluebell's coolant was well overdue for a change

I've now given the whole cooling system a good flush and will be refilling with new coolant. I did think of using OAT but I'll use barley water instead I think

Seriously, it's an old engine so it'll have what it was designed for - ethylene glycol...

I'm amazed at how good the hoses and rad are... Fully serviceable and cleaned up a treat... The cooling system has never corroded as witnessed by how clean the top hose to thermostat housing spigot is... So often these are a veritable sea of corrosion after a few years of neglect...

Well spotted James, It's Bluebell!

She'll be angry with me now, thinking I'm two-timing her

Daffodil had hers done when I did her cambelt a couple of years ago...

A top day yesterday

Sian's Pixo flew through its MoT

Now I'm down to one functional and road-legal car her Pixo is my reserve car as Sian only uses it very occasionally. I keep it happy by using kit for my shopping trip once a week...

Yesterday I collected this...

Just for the flanged spacer... It came from a banger racer whose 14 year old daughter raced in the junior small car class and raced many a Pug 106 and latterly Nissan Micras!

She's now moved up a class and racing Astras...

It was a great evening out

No prizes for guessing what I'm doing today

Yep, that's the plan Mick

Firstly I have to bolt a bar across the top of the block to lock the engine so I can undo the crank centre bolt and recover the flange..

It's got no flywheel fitted so that's the only way to lock it up...

One advantage of a headless and flywheel-less TU engine is it is fairly light and easy to move around...

One thing I had to take care of bringing it home is that it still has a sumpful of oil!
