A quick update on Bluebell...
I was absolutely delighted when I first saw Bluebell on Tuesday and Alasdair and I immediately set to work. We had her running in about 10 minutes after sorting out a wiring problem near the coil. An easy win
She fired up instantly on old, stale petrol but was not happy idling. This was a blocked idle jet in the carb..
I was alarmed to see the oil light staying on but this was just a dead sender. The engine and gearbox are both in very rude health...
After fitting a new battery and performing a very necessary oil change due to petrol contamination where many attempts must have been made to previously start her, she was getting close to being potentially MoT ready and after doing a myriad of little but critical jobs she indeed appeared to be, notwithstanding needing a new pair of tyres.
One track rod end boot was split but luckily Alasdair had a replacement boot kit so that was an easy fix...
A short road test however revealed a very badly worn rear wheel bearing and after brake drum removal a weepy wheel cylinder...
So nothing serious. I'll get the parts, install the new bearings at home and then rush back down, do a full brake overhaul and then submit her for an MoT.
Today she got her new tyres...
The more I look at Bluebell the better she is. Her overall condition is amazing
I'm currently typing this in a Travelodge near Southampton en-route to the New Forest for the last big Cycle Sportive ride of the season on Saturday.
It's been great working on Bluebell these past few days and I'm positively delighted with progress and what a good 'un she is
