sorry to hear about this Jim  wished our timing had been closer

was Just in Newcastle this weekend with Marie as well! could have helped there!

if any help I am driving to Cumbria but 3rd Sept..?

I had a nightmare regarding transporting my Chevy too Scotland ( I think through shipley- I didnt arrange it)
Despite being very careful to supply all measurements,
I had a young lad (20 or so) turn up from Birmingham one June evening, in something similar to this :

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=merced ... =145&ty=74

I was gobsmacked... my van was 23' long, 8.3' wide and over 5000 kilos
it got completely stuck getting on the back.. tires smoking badly. rear end completely ground into the car park..

even if it had gone on, there's no way 11 foot of van, well above his cab, would have lasted the first bend! god knows if insurance would have covered the massive mess when the whole thing went on it's side.. very distressing to a part of that evening..

A month later a proper vehicle arrived, pic later :)

Jim,

Sorry to hear about all this, me and davoxx know about transport companies with our Activa affair :-(

If plan R falls through and you can wait till sometime early sept then I should have my towbar fitted by then and would just need 2 other things covering off to help you as the new job gives me a lot of time off in return for a lot of log shifts or nights :-D

I'd be up for a bit of speed-spannering....David's is only a spit up the road from here

My mate's got the gear to transport this, but as it's a '72 2.25 LWB Landie progress might be, er, sedate, and the fuel bill

Another Pal has an L200 - but he's in Newcastle, so that would be a long old drive.

Hope you get it sorted Jim - plenty of tea here just off the M74 if you need a stop off

Turns out that I've been messed around by Shiply as well so am having to make a trip to Yorkshire with the trailer to pick up a 4 ton dumper.

After having spoken to Jim and both of us being fed up we have decided that the best way to move the car is to do it ourselves.

I'm going to take the XM to Wetherby, where Jim is going to meet me and take the car back down to Newport Pagnell.

David.

Sorry to hear about the problems with sorting this out.

As there was no time limit stated previously in the thread, as to when it was to be transported, then maybe a price could have been negotiated with a company like this or, somebody smaller where they would be able to add this to a back load, where they would have been running empty or partially loaded. They could quote a good price, probably subsidised by Channel 5 as it would make for good TV.

Wow, that looks a very smart train Will. It's amazing that the old Class 47s are still going. They date from the sixties and were perhaps, HST besides, one of the most successful classes of BR Diesel ever. They sound lovely too - not as lovely as an HST though, they are just gorgeous when both ends are running up to full (engine) speed with the accompanying turbo wail just before moving off and if they're doing it in a trainshed then even better...

You can't beat the soundtrack of a big diesel. Those that reckon steam trains are the only ones with character know nothing!!! I love my big diesels and have a particular passion for the old Deltics...

Now I have to confess that electric trains do nothing for me at all... Bar taking me from here to London and back very efficiently and speedily as the need arises. I really do appreciate them for that...

It's a lovely thought Richard but a gearbox swap in a V6 is a good weekend's work even if all goes to plan, you have a spare 'box ready and no other faults are found...

It would be a heck of a weekend, that's for sure!!!

Then there's the question of getting the car Taxed and MOT'd...

No, best to trailer it...

She's home safe and sound :D :D :D

Excellent day, went without a hitch in every way :D Massive thanks to David Hallworth and his dad for making the day a full and utter success :D

Franklin, The lorry (for that's what it was) was up to the task, plated to carry a 2.5 ton payload so your fears were groundless I'm happy to say,

Here is the rig with the XM loaded up ready to come south at Wetherby...

I have to say the Isuzu was a truly wonderful machine bar for it's vague steering, pot-luck gearbox and being strictly limited to 56 mph...

We had huge fun overtaking other lorries and playing guess how many miles it'll take. Our record was 6 miles to crawl past an artic

The bed came out on a double articulation to lay almost flat. It really was an excellent beast.

The XM gearbox died completely putting it on my drive. We had to push it the last few feet...
