Vince's XM...213k and slowing....

Well, its a rainy Sunday and once again sat in a kids ball pool place with Jack whilst waiting to play taxi to James and Linda who are in Manchester buying more things for our holiday..

Well, perhaps tempting fate? But the xm has and is performing its job as our daily driver very well with no running problems whatsoever. I have utmost faith in the car mechanically now and I can foresee years of faithfull service ahead of me.

I dropped Linda and James off this morning in Manchester and spent some time looking at the xm in shop Windows as I drove past...there us simply nothing like it on the roads around here, which I love.

So far the car has cost me around £100 on parts which included a set of 4 front spheres, although only 3 were fitted....this I class as start up costs which you get with anything I suppose.

Later I'm going to be learning some autoelectrical stuff off tutorials on the net...if I can do these things it should keep running costs down.

I'm looking forward to taking it down south next week, and then of course the cxm.

A replacement set of locks should arrive this week for the princely sum of 30 quid. I've got a few jobs to do before we go....

After briefly driving a certain V6 XM along a badly surfaced gravel road this afternoon I can once again see the appeal. They do ride nicely and the interior is something else...

I knew you would like the XM Vince

They are usually very dependable cars so I can't see why you would have a problem running yours as a daily. Ive got a lot of faith in mine, and its not the best of XMs, but its reliable and always has been.

Costs do soon mount up, you have done well to only spend £100 so far. Mine is getting to be many times that ammount.

I too look in shop windows at the XMs shape, I also find people look XMs too.

Ah but thats the Boring dash in the S2 XM ... The S1 "Original" dash is far better, and more "Airy and roomy" IMO..

By my standards the S2 dash is fantastic Paul. I know the S1 is even better but on the grand scale of things, the S2 dash and interior as a whole is still a big wow factor on the car...

I really can't decide which I like best, S1 or S2 dash. The S1 wins on the sheer quirkyness of it but the S2 is a very appealing place to be and things fall to hand a little easier. I do like the covered radio in the S1, shame that it was not fitted with a radio display on the left hand dash readout - like the S2 was. The single spoke wheel in the S1 is very cool though, its a big plus about the interior for me, as nice as the Xantia wheel in the S2 is to use, the single spoke S1 is so much nicer.

Well in manchester city centre going down to pick Linda and James up i gave a couple of people the chance to see something a little different....

On King St (money street) a young couple stopped and with excited grins nudging each other watched the xm roll past them....clearly old Citroen fans i presume A moment later i drove in traffic through a busy crossing point and with the window down heard this guy say to his mate "cool check out that big old Citroen"

This is what i love about the early xm's.....you just dont see them and they are a big striking piece of design

After id got over myself i decided to tackle the tail lights which with my new found motivation of actually fixing things myself where i can (instead of being lazy and paying for someone else to do it) I managed to get working again A combination of things it seemed...i just went through and cleaned up connections testing as i went until i reached the bulb holder and still had a feed...then with a good bulb inserted hey presto back in business

I do the shop window looking thing sometimes too. A while back Dad borrowed the Xantia and I happened to be walking up the high street. Caught a glimpse of a white car passing and it caught my eye though it took a second to realise that it was mine. Thats something that makes me smile!

£100, not bad!

Got a project here Marc in the form of a Ve SEi auto 1993 K reg ... ON LPG! So same MPG as vince but with a Veee... WITH all parts to fix he up too except a welder for one sill hole....
