I can't get my head round that, it would appear to be the air intake but I'd rather see it in real life to be sure what's what!! I don't recognise the carb but Jim might, have you got the moped till it's fixed now Ryan?

 To be honest Ryan, I can't add a lot to this as I have absolutely no experience of modern mopeds...

I'm intrigued by the electrical connections to the carb. The black and yellow wires... I wonder of that is part of an electric fuel tap/engine cutoff or even maybe an enrichment device. If this is not happy it's likely it won't run.

I believe you have a spark. Next test is to see if there is any fuel actually reaching the combustion chamber. When trying to start the engine, cover the carb. inlet with the palm of your hand to encourage a very rich mixture and spin the engine over a few times. Then remove the spark plug and see if it's wet. It should be and there should also be a significant smell of petrol lurking around.

If it's as dry as pub with no beer then I'd suspect there is no fuel getting into the engine...

You say the engine is not the original. Has it ever ran since the transplant?

Sorry if I'm going over old ground. Need to establish the baseline.

Two-Strokes are simple but many things can stop them running. A lack of compression, either crankcase or combustion chamber will render them almost impossible to start... as will the spark timing being way out.

Too much oil in the petrol can also stop them starting too...

Is the carb the one that belongs to the engine or the one from the original engine?

One thing that can sometimes persuade a reluctant moped into life is a big long bump start... Several hundred yards or so...

As said, it would be easier if we could see this machine rather than trying to diagnose an unknown and modified machine over the Internet...

I'd try giving it a sniff of 'Start, yer bastard' or other flammable thing staight into the carb. Not to make it run for long, but to see if it'll cough into life. If there's absolutely no signs of life with that then either you've no compression, the spark timing is way out, or the plug isn't working under pressure. Also - is the crankcase full of an oily / petrol-y liquid after being stored or maintained inappropriately ?

So it's a 1999 Suzuki AP50 with a big bore kit.Not the AP50 I knew going back another 20 years. Going from the exhaust it looks like a thrash and 'sort of ' go scooter so no bump starting. That year will big electronic ignition so if there's a spark all should be good with timing.

It's been stood up a while? My money is carb blocked. Carbs of that generation don't like ethanol and if it is a kid that owns it, pound to a penny it's been run on 95E10 or even a bit of E85 because it's cheaper.

My guess on the wires would be a fuel cut off. Briggs started using this arrangement about the same time.

As has been said, take the plug out and clean it, put it back in, cover COMPETELY the air intake with your hand and spin it over for 5 to 10 secs, take the plug out and see if it's wet.

My money says it will be dry so it's carb off and a good clean.

Please note I'm not an expert on mopeds. My moped is a 1980 Z650 :-D

I'd say it was down to the alternator not having to work as hard. I had some heated grips on a bike years ago and if I'd left them on while I was at work the battery was flat and needed a bump start. It ran very badly for a couple of miles because all the power was being absorbed by the battery, then it was fine
