Brilliant Marc , saves me having to pull those pipes out (fill was a pain) with that mad button design. It's only got 130kms on the clock although 12 years old - but I do hope and expect thanks to your help and that of the other members here to keep it on the road for a long time to come!

After filling and resetting I got SERVICE light with a red engine. I then made a new diagnosis and got error U1218 81 15 times. I was able to delete them all and they stopped coming. Is that normal?

No, as I mentioned before you have an issue with the electrical / communication system. 'U' faults are data errors which basically mean there is a problem on the vehicle data networks.

Until you get your dealer to investigate I think you should put your diagnostic tool away for a bit as you can't rely on the vehicle's systems while this issue is unresolved. I really don't recommend doing anything else until you have them look at it.

Just be wary that until it's resolved you may be getting warnings or even limp mode - so I would keep journeys to a minimum and avoid long journeys (and make sure you have good breakdown and recovery).

With these issues it's hard to say would could happen.

Hi i still didn't top up because I stuck with one nut . I can't reach because that long screw and that plastic cover. I already snap first one , screw was so corroded in first turn I just twisted out. In meantime I played with Digabox and that what already I found I don't know it's everything as should but it's showing me is there 500ml fluid 🤔

According to the readings you are half full in any case, so no need to top it up yet because you should top it up with 1 litre minimum when it is needed.

That assumes that the calculations are correct of course, because it is only estimated (and than nobody has reset it without topping it up previously).

my wifes car has the low particulate level issue, could someone advise the fluid we need to buy either additivie or pouch?

VIN Number VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
2014 C4 Grand Picasso 1.6 Hdi.

Is it easy enough to do the diagnostics myself - I know my way round most things but dont want to risk doing anything wrong is there is a chance of it easily going wrong. If easy, what diag tool should i looking for and what cost is normal/appropriate? Or could i fill the additive and then get someone with the right machine to do it for me? (ie does it need to be done at the same time/same day/same week?)

Hi, you need Powerflex additive specifically for this build date and you have a reservoir, not a pouch system.

As for resetting the additive counter, put it this way: there is no physical measuring system, so it is all calculated, hence why telling the ECU it has been topped up is essential. So that said, it won't clear the error or stop the message until this is done. It is not essential to do it right away, as at least you will have fluid in there once you have topped it up, but don't leave it too long.

You will need professional level diagnostics to reset it and yes it can be fraught with problems - some people have no trouble resetting it and others do - whether this is down to their diagnostic equipment or software or indeed understanding - it can be either or all!

A dealer will charge you diagnostic time to do this, but yes, if you have decent independent, they may charge you a lot less than a dealer as long as they can do it.

It probably won't be worth you while buying a dedicated laptop, the VCI hardware and the hassle of installation for just this operation to be honest.

No they are not the same thing. Eolys Extend on the Amazon link is only for certain vehicles. You require 'Powerflex' additive specifically.

Thanks for the clarification and the advice!

The additive came on saturday - £28 - really easy job to change the fluid, up on ramps - undid 3 nuts to remove the cover, unclipped the blue clip and gravity fed the additive in.

Now just need to book in and get the diagnostics done - again thanks to this site for all the help

You need Eolys EXTEND specifically for the C5 X7 with this build date.
