The 205 STDT was basically a diesel GTi but a lot quicker than the petrol GTi...
I had one for a while... It was manic!

Re: Citrojim's Ka, Skoda, Saxo and Bike Tales
There’s a lot of 205 diesels converted to the xud turbo. Crank up the fuelling a bit and run it on veg. Cheap and fun, with comfort thrown in. Just what the doctor ordered!

It'd be really nice if someone made a really torquey, diesel go-kart type car that was quiet on the motorway that could cruise in relative silence at 80-90mph. I'd buy one immediately. I don't need a big car, but they're always so much quieter. I like to be able to stick bikes in the back but that's not an essential.
Phase 2 Pug 306 D-Turbo. Especially if it's a late one as they tended to be pretty well kitted out too.

I know somebody who had a Daihatsu Charade Turbo. Top speed was a little over 100MPH, but it did not take long to get there. He said that there was almost no gap too small to use for overtaking (even if it did mean the oncoming drivers got a bit nervous at times!).

Cappuccino was somewhat like that. It was limited to 85mph, but you hit that like a brick wall. Its party trick was probably accelerating from 40 or 50 up to about 75. Especially with the map it was running meaning that the thing revved like a complete lunatic. Sitting about two inches off the tarmac meant that 50 felt like about 90 anyway!

Re: Citrojim's Ka, Skoda, Saxo and Bike Tales
The three-pot Daihatsu engine is a little cracker - it developed into the C1/107/Aygo engine and we all know what an excellent little engine that one is
Daihatsu, now a part of Toyota, are the leaders in small three-pots... I guess why Toyota took them over...

The 1.4td Roomster engine was a three pot Jim. Obviously VW sourced but it was a lovely engine. They put a 1.6 in them now which is probably the Golf engine.

Re: Citrojim's Ka, Skoda, Saxo and Bike Tales
I have to assume that the engine in the configuration it was in while used for the Cappuccino had some serious counterbalance hardware going on - even bearing in mind the ridiculously short stroke only displacing 657cc as it was incredibly smooth. I've got a couple of videos I took when out and about with a camera tied to a sun visor - will have to see if I can find one somewhere...

The C1/107/Aygo engine is smooth for a three-potter Zel and I'm not aware of any overt balancing stuff..
The three-potter in the Pixo is quite rough and harsh in comparison...

I've heard good reports of that engine Dave...
And of the Fraud three-pot too... The one in the later/latest Fester with a turbo attached...

Re: Citrojim's Ka, Skoda, Saxo and Bike Tales
I had a bit of spare time this morning and as it's a lot warmer now - Reynauld's comes on after about ten minutes now - I gave the Ka and Pixo a quick wash...
The Ka was especially in need of a good scrub as she was filthy...
She's clean now and she really does show just how ratty she is with loads of cosmetic dings and blemishes...
A real rat but a very lovable rat
You know how much I love the rat look and Jodie the Ka is a good looker in a rat kind of a way
I shall be using her bodywork issues to hone my skills so that when i come to do some bodywork on the Skoda I'll have had some practice
Here she is looking all clean and shiny
And here is her pet rat... That rat has been in all my ratty cars since the original Rattiva I
She seems right at home in Jodie the Ka

True, it is, most definitely
But not in the owl sense although I'm sure many would only want to take it out in public on a very dark night...
