Re: How to Replace the Internal MicroSD Card - RT6
Yas247, maybe I can help you. I just did the same thing (I'll write a detailed guide later), and the thing that saved me was backing up my personal data with Mirascript (from the original SD card to a USB drive) before installing. After installing, I restored my personal data with Mirascript.
You can find the scripts here: https://mira308sw.altervista.org/it/index.htm
EDIT: I don't know if it's possible to back up files from a similar car stereo and restore it to yours. Copying and rewriting would work, but what next? I'd be a little concerned because I don't know if the car's VIN data is copied, and I've read that dissociating the car stereo from the car itself is a pain and requires a repair shop or professional tools.

Did you do the backup before replacing the microSD? If not, I think you can say Sayonara to everything. The process is very clearly written.Yas247 wrote: 23 Jan 2026, 10:07 I have installed new memory card and firmware 2.86 , looks like all my car extras have disappeared camera, mileage stuck in kmph. I take it there is no way of getting them back.

Re: How to Replace the Internal MicroSD Card - RT6
All the information is in Post 1 of the Thread so if Yas247 didn't follow that then it's gone I imagine. I am not sure if settings can be copied over from other vehicles. It may work. My understanding is a lot of cars deal with a lot of their programming through the car stereo these days and that has been the case for some time with new-fangled technology. Don't forget manufacturers want to make as much money as possible after selling you a car hence why they will not directly licence the maps on a new microSD.Zack509 wrote: 23 Jan 2026, 10:24 Yas247, maybe I can help you. I know my responses are particularly helpful but asking questions before tinkering with something such as this is critical and not restricted. I think you can see that from all my posts back in September last year and probably back in February last year. I knew not to risk ANYTHING because a replacement unit is £1200 so being able to replace the microSD yourself is priceless even if you had to ask PSA to reprogramme the maps or do whatever. The issue is that PSA will not swap out the microSD when they can sell you a unit at £1200!!!

Re: How to Replace the Internal MicroSD Card - RT6
Rhothgar, I've read a lot of guides and I have to say I found the best ones here, but even after reading all the guides, I found myself in a situation I've never described before. If you're okay with it, I'll write a post here by the weekend with the steps I took and the suggestions I'd like to share. Then you can decide whether I add anything that might improve the main guide or not. What do you think?
PS: Since there were several suggestions online, I ended up starting the work with ChatGPT... BULLSHIT! First of all, I'd like to say: don't let AI help you.

As an aside, have you actually got yours working now because I've just read that two days ago you spent an evening sleeping in your car and still no joy?Zack509 wrote: 23 Jan 2026, 10:24 Yas247, maybe I can help you. I seem to recall having these issues at first but I cannot remember what finally resolved it. I will check my earlier posts and possibly upload a video I took.

Re: How to Replace the Internal MicroSD Card - RT6
I've solved it!
I finished the installation on Wednesday afternoon and I'm still on tenterhooks because I can't believe it.
In hindsight, the whole thing took 40 minutes of work, plus the preparations.
The fact that in 2026 you still have to burn a CD can be a bit of a shock, but then I found an old box that had been through at least two moves with some sealed Verbatim CDs in it... When installing from CD, there were reboot cycles that lasted about 40 minutes (just enough time to close my eyes for a moment to survive). The cycles were “black screen with logo and terminal-like operations,” “graphics with Czech language and media verification,” “request to restart with the need to click Yes (Ano in Czech, which in my language means anus...)” and it all started again... And Chat GPT telling me “don't worry, if it's doing that, it means everything is fine, just a couple more cycles and it will be over, please don't turn off the engine,” and after 2 hours "don't worry, if it's doing that, it means everything is fine, it can last up to 4 hours, please don't turn off the engine,“ and after 4 hours, ”Don't worry, if it's doing that, it means everything is fine. It can last up to 6 hours. Please don't turn off the engine"... until 6:30 a.m., when I had to return to my role as a father...
On Wednesday, Chat GPT told me, “Please, you absolutely must continue with the CD, not USB,” and I tried three different CDs. Back to the reboot loop. I started over several times, formatting the microSD card (thank goodness for Linux) and restarting with the CD. Until I tried USB... The first time, I was scared because I got stuck on the normal screen, but with the Czech language, only the service menu and a continuous beep beep.... Then I repeated everything a couple of times until I got used to not being afraid and had the intuition to restore Mirascript, so I finished.
Perhaps what is missing from the original guide is that those who have never done it before don't realize when the installation is successfully completed and only the backup needs to be restored. Then my biggest mistake was thinking that ChatGPT could put together all the knowledge from all the guides. According to it, the installation would be complete when the system asked me to choose the language and time, which never happened...
I would add that, when I realized that I would benefit from being able to quickly access the microSD card, I opened a window in the chassis with the flexible tool...

Re: How to Replace the Internal MicroSD Card - RT6
I couldn’t back up as the micro sd was already corrupted and the 5008 doesn’t have a usb (unless it’s well hidden).
It’s not end of the world as I’m still better off than hearing the annoying cd loading sound and the parking sensors work.

I am not sure if any of this will be useful to anyone now or in the future. The problem is with this post is that it is VERY active.
Here is a separate post I made about the process which clearly shows me trying to understand several things I was unsure about.

Do you still have the microSD? If so, it might be worth plugging into a PC and taking a screenshot of the file structure?Yas247 wrote: 23 Jan 2026, 14:25 I couldn’t back up as the micro sd was already corrupted and the 5008 doesn’t have a usb (unless it’s well hidden).

I’ll try asking the stealership to download the configuration file for my vehicle from the Stellantis servers as paul suggested, but it’s difficult to try and explain to the receptionist who answer the call.

Well! If you can post a screenshot of the contents that might help someone to make an assessment. Having no moving parts, makes me think a low-level read could be done with perhaps something like EaseUS Data Recovery free version. Just a guess though.Yas247 wrote: 23 Jan 2026, 14:32Yes I still have it didn’t think it was possible to get anything from itRhothgar wrote: 23 Jan 2026, 14:26Do you still have the microSD? In 3008, the USB is in the underside of the armrest centre console. Not sure about 5008.Yas247 wrote: 23 Jan 2026, 14:25 I couldn’t back up as the micro sd was already corrupted and the 5008 doesn’t have a usb (unless it’s well hidden).

Re: How to Replace the Internal MicroSD Card - RT6
Here's my experience installing the software on the RT6/RNEG2 of a 2013 Peugeot 807, which shows 170,000 km.
The following text was written in Italian and then translated using Google.
The symptom that prompted me to perform this operation was that the car radio worked fine when cold, but when warm (perhaps after a short break during a trip) it would display a black screen and make noise from the CD. Since I bought the car used a couple of months ago, I hoped it was a software issue and read online that it could be due to the degradation of the MicroSD.
Other symptoms included the constant prompt to insert the navigation CD, which hasn't happened since the entire operation, and more recently, the parking sensor error, which hasn't been resolved yet and I still don't know if it's a hardware or software issue. Incidentally, I backed up with Mirascript after the parking sensor issue appeared.
I've found several guides online, mostly focused on the upgrade, not exactly a fresh install. The one at the beginning of this thread is one of the most comprehensive, so I recommend reading it. But if everything doesn't go as planned, my steps might be helpful.
My experience was a bit of a struggle, but I finally figured it out, and I'll summarize it below for posterity.
What DIDN'T work for me
- Cloning the original MicroSD didn't work, or rather, the cloning worked, but the car stereo wouldn't boot.
- Installing from CD didn't work, repeating in an infinite loop.
- Simply installing from USB didn't work comletly, but restoring the backup with Mirascript finally fixed everything.
...and now let's start the guide...
Title: NEW MICROSD AND NEW SOFTWARE
In my case, I wanted to install the software from scratch on a new MicroSD and had access to the old, battered one.
SHOPPING LIST
- A PC with Linux (even a live distro, i.e., an operating system that boots temporarily so that the media formatting and data copying won't be affected by known interference from Windows and MacOS, which can write their own unwanted service files). You might be able to get by without this, but I'm glad I used it. In my experiments, I had to format it several times, and it was helpful to do it from the terminal in Linux, especially because once the MicroSD is processed by the car stereo, it's divided into three separate partitions. It's then useful to use Linux commands to smooth everything out and return to a basic FAT32 formatting. If everything goes smoothly for you, don't worry too much. Yes, I confess that ChatGPT was useful for formatting from the terminal.
- A new industrial-grade MicroSD (for greater security) in 8 or 16 GB (available on Amazon)
- Latest software version (don't expect hundreds of MB or GB —those are the maps— but, for example, version 2.86 that I found comes in 50 MB files, and is available as a zip, rar, or ISO file)
- Mirascript software (read the first post in this thread)
- 2 USB flash drives (it's best not to overdo the GB to ensure compatibility; flash drives with LEDs that indicate when they're working are ideal). If you need to get them and want to use one of them to install maps later (they're not included in this guide), I'd go with 16 GB.
- If the original MicroSD is inside the car stereo, you'll need tools (pins) to extract the stereo and a size 8 Torx screwdriver to open it.
STEPS
I'll list my steps in a simplified manner so I can keep it short. The process could take 90 minutes, including 40 minutes for software installation and the rest for disassembly and reassembly.
1) Format the two USB sticks and the MicroSD in all cases in a single FAT32 partition.
2) Follow the Mirascript instructions to back up your personal data from your original MicroSD (if still accessible) to one of the two USB sticks, which you can call BACKUP RT6.
3) Copy all the contents of the system software exactly as they are onto the second USB stick, which you can call SOFTWARE RT6 (as mentioned, I managed to do this with a version 2.86 found online, but unfortunately the installation language was Czech).
4) Turn off the engine and safely disconnect the battery. Do not reconnect it for 10 minutes.
5) Access the original MicroSD.
In my case, the MicroSD is inside the car stereo chassis, so
5.1 I opened the two glove compartments, lifted and pulled out the tray under the display, pulled the air vent lock, removed the air vent connector that has a plastic nail in the middle, and freed the cables that are resting behind a pin.
5.2 I removed the car stereo, unscrewed the screws until I reached the MicroSD, which is on the side near the Fan
5.3 I chose not to unplug the cables and removed the original MicroSD card (by applying pressure with my finger).
6) Insert the new MicroSD card into the car stereo and keep the old one safe (you never know). Close everything for safety reasons.
7) Carefully reconnect the battery, start the engine, and insert the second USB stick, the one with the SOFTWARE, into the car stereo's USB port (it could be in the dashboard, as in my case, under the display, or inside an armrest).
8) The logo should appear on a black background and you should see some text operations, then a sort of reboot with a black screen, and finally the car radio graphics (which may be set to a foreign language). In my case, when it finished, it stopped, asking me whether to restart or not. I said YES a few times, and it seemed to me that it kept going through the same installation cycle, until I solved it by clicking NO. So I think one cycle is enough and you can just click NO. The installation didn't seem complete because there were only two installer options in the menu, but the software version was correct.
9) Remove the software key, insert the first USB key, the BACKUP one, and follow the instructions to copy the files to the car radio (restore them). Then remove the backup key and restart using the on-screen selection, or press the eject button for several seconds or turning the car off and on again.
And that's what worked for me.
