Re: Merged Lexia & Diagbox threads
having problems so will have to re-format drive and reload windows. Does the latest version still operate the same way (Lexia), remove usb and re-attach lead etc and not on internet? I ask as it seems it is connected to internet during the whole install process.

Re: Merged Lexia & Diagbox threads
Harry - if you are going to do a clean install of Windows 7, take your time and make sure you have all your hardware drivers installed and that windows is all patched up with Windows updates.
Important If you are reinstalling your OS from scratch, make sure you have the utility / driver disk supplied by your PC manufacturer - but specifically the chipset drivers which normally get installed first, as sometimes Windows can't identify the hardware without this preventing driver installation. In other words, before you attempt Diagbox installation, you shouldn't have any yellow exclamation marks shown against any hardware devices in the Device manager
Get your PDF software installed too and maybe Apache Open Office which is free:
https://www.openoffice.org/
Z-Zip for opening compressed files:
http://www.7-zip.org/
Once you have all your basic software on and you are happy all is working, make a system restore point:-
To create a restore point in Windows 7:
If you are going to install Diagbox next, ignore everything else you have read on the net about installing it and concentrate on the instructions from Easy. It is easy to get mixed up with other versions with different passwords that wont apply to your version.
Regards
Edited to clarify this refers to Windows 7 and added reference to Device Manager as was in response to Harry specifically

To create a restore point in Windows 7:
- Open System by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties.
In the left pane, click System protection. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Click the System Protection tab, and then click Create.
In the System Protection dialog box, type a description, and then click Create.
If you are going to install Diagbox next, ignore everything else you have read on the net about installing it and concentrate on the instructions from Easy. It is easy to get mixed up with other versions with different passwords that wont apply to your version.
- Make sure you have your internet connection turned on throughout the installation as per the instructions.
Follow the instructions precisely and don't skip anything - making sure your restart the PC when advised.
When you get to the updates, again, do them one at a time and restart the PC after each one then launch Diagbox after the PC starts to apply the update. Do this for each update.
Don't worry about plugging in the hardware to your USB until you have applied all the software and updates.
I strongly suggest you only update to 7.65 as supplied by Easy at this stage and get everything working. This will be all you need to work with your car and older models.
During the software installation, you will get multiple requests to allow connections through your firewall - allow ALL of these. Be careful, as these firewall request windows will pop up quite quickly.
When you eventually plug in the hardware, you may again get various firewall messages - allow these.

Re: Merged Lexia & Diagbox threads
Found a thread on another forum which says it won't run in Win 10 if you are using ACHI drive connectivity, and some other stuff about config I didn't understand! Given this has a hybrid drive, I doubt it would be too happy in IDE mode. This also Win 10 Home, so Hyper V is a no go. Going to try virtualbox, when Ben has talked about using - if that won't work, then it is another laptop. I do have one here, but it is very slow - although I might be able to put some more RAM in it. Grumble grumble grumble. I hate Windoze anyway - I'd install Linux if I had to time to play about with it - then perhaps this could dual boot on Vista for Diagbox as my previous machine....

Re: Merged Lexia & Diagbox threads
Hi Richard, Windows 10 will have it's own set of requirements and I chose not to use this OS for this reason on the diagnostic Laptop. I felt there was no point in installing the newer OS to run this older software and then have the performance and compatibility issues. I can say that regarding AHCI, I do have this enabled on my Windows 7 Pro laptop I use for Diagbox without issue. Regarding Windows 10, setting the drive compatibility to IDE will allow the software to install, but will give you a speed and performance degrade with newer Hard Drives drives especially SSD, as a result.
I only have 2GB ram in my diagnostic Lenovo laptop, but as I haven't 'bloated' it with software I don't need, it runs just fine. I have a free PDF writer called CutePDF, that I have as a printer, so if I need any printouts using Diagbox, I can print to this and then print the PDF out later when in wifi range of the laser in the house.
.
Best of luck on whatever you decide.

Re: Merged Lexia & Diagbox threads
Virtualbox installed, Vista up and running, and Diagbox installed. Just need to figure out how to get it to see the USB devices (not tried with the connector yet, but haven't managed to get a stick to work yet....).

Re: Merged Lexia & Diagbox threads
Sadly more problems! Loading servicebox and it wants disk 2. as the drive is "tied" the computer cannot see it and manually opening the tray and inserting disk 2 does not work for same reason. So I am stuck at the moment. How do I get it to use disk 2 and later disk 3? Thanks guys.....

Re: Merged Lexia & Diagbox threads
What do you mean 'tied' harry? How are you installing servicebox - via 3 DVDs? or have you downloaded the separate files - if the latter, you have so recreate the three ISO DVD images from the individual files correctly into DVD1, DVD2 & DVD3 ISOs. Then 'mount' DVD1 ISO using a programme like Virtual CloneDrive or similar. Once mounted, install from there. When it asks for DVD2, 'unmount' DVD1. Then browse to DVD2.ISO and 'mount' that image. Then hit OK on the programme asking for Disk 2. Ditto for Disk 3 Harry. If anything else, please post back.
Edit: Or - if you have downloaded 3 ISO files (DVD1.ISO, DVD2.ISO & DVD3.ISO, these also need to be 'mounted' before you can run the installation programme. You simply cannot open the ISO file and run the programme from there. Use virtual drive mounting software as I mentioned previously to 'mount' the DVD1 ISO (it will assign a drive letter once mounted), then run the install programme from there - same instructions apply for 'unmounting' DVD1, and 'mounting' DVD2 etc., as mentioned above.

Re: Merged Lexia & Diagbox threads
Marc, I have 3 CD's. Although the software asks for disk 2 it has to be manually ejected and does not recognise ANY disk when the drawer is closed. Selecting Computer from start up, the dvd drive is not shown. Guess software lock, but be good if the damned stuff communicated to itself. Absolutely no idea what to do next.... ](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)
Edit. I guess downloading from somewhere and mounting them is the only way to go?? Can I load the contents of each DVD to a file or is that something completely different?
Regards

Re: Merged Lexia & Diagbox threads
It sounds like you DVD ROM drive isn't being detected.
Have you tried a Reboot, then after it has restarted, check if it is showing up under my computer? If not, right click on 'My Computer', choose 'Properties' and then 'Device Manager'. From the tree structure is your DVD-ROM drive being shown under DVD/CD-ROM drives? (expand the arrow to the left to see any devices underneath). If it is not showing anything, try right clicking on any of the devices in the list and choosing 'scan for hardware changes'. Does it pick anything up after this? If not, from the 'View' menu, choose 'Show Hidden Devices'. Is there anything showing now?
If not, have you changed anything in your PC's BIOS settings lately? Is it a Laptop? If so check that the CD/DVD-ROM module / bay is securely locked into place and hasn't loosened. If it is a laptop with a removable Optical unit, try removing it (usually a slide switch underneath on the back or somewhere that will release it or allow you to remove it. Take it out and re-insert it, start your system and see if has been detected.
