Yes, AutoGlass too IIRC. C5 with auto lights and wipers. Took about three hours, he did a superb job and left everything spotless. Everything worked as before too.Rp0thejester wrote: 04 Sep 2026, 20:03 I have Auto Glass arriving on Monday to fit a new windscreen as it's cracked. Luckily she's not an EV robot that does everything for you. Has anyone had a new windscreen fitted that has rain and light sensors fitted, if so, how long does it take roughly?

Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
Here she is with the cracked windscreen. Parked up ready for Autoglass to replace this morning. I parked it round the back of my house where there's a huge area for communal parking that's very rarely used, so they had plenty of space to work. I would add a finished photo of the new windscreen but she hasn't got one...... Once again she's thrown a spanner in the works. Being an 06 seems to throw up a lot of problems. I think it's because she's half way between one model date and the other. The issue was that the rear view mirror is an electric mirror. It has a push (punch it hard) clip to remove the mirror where as the new glass has a twist fit. So waiting on a new date for fitment. She's mechanically sound so that's the main positive but she does like to fight me on everything!!!!

This is my main paranoia if I ever have to replace the windscreen on my X7. I don't trust insurance or AutoGlass or whoever to have the right part. Nor to do a good job of it knowing my history with anyone that isn't Chevronics or the Wilbury body shop a few units up the road from Chevronics. I don't even want to think of ever replacing the rear window.

Luckily like I said, mine isn't a drive itself drone otherwise it would be a write off. Have you seen the process they have to go through? It's insane!! Cars seem to be built as consumables rather than lasting. But I/she will still attend the CCC meet on the 12th, I/she still needs something to look forward to.

I did enjoy reading about how you get in and out of smaller cars , it did put some pretty cool images in my mind , you'd be a star on Netflix if you had your own series. All true though even im seeing the better side of a bigger car for comfort and ease of getting in and out of it.Rp0thejester wrote: 19 Aug 2026, 01:13 Oh, before I forget, I did have an issue with Chevronics....I had to stop before leaving their premises.....to get my Chevronics stickers!!!! Which they promised me, bloody expensive stickers, I got 2, so that's £1500 each. Next will be a new windscreen, as it's cracked, luckily I have a spare FCF tax disc badge to put on the new windscreen.

This is how I honestly feel trying to get in and out of low down cars. Take a look at this video, 'john cleese fawlty towers beating car' https://share.google/1Ar5hRfv327cJH6Uh

Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
The first time I visited my Great Aunt Sylvia after I had passed my driving test I was driving a Citroen BX. Because of her hips she found it uncomfortable getting in and out of low cars, and her son Bob had a Ford Puma. While Sylvia loved being DRIVEN in the car, getting in and out was a problem. They had planned for us all to go out for a meal. I offered to drive, and explained I could raise the suspension to (hopefully) make it easier for her. With the suspension at full height she was able to get across and into the car (and not down into the car). When we got back home Sylvia said to Bob something like "While I enjoy being driven in the Puma, when James is visiting (and if he is willing) please could we go out in the Citroen?".Rp0thejester wrote: 08 Sep 2026, 18:43 This is how I honestly feel trying to get in and out of low down cars. Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
I've just had a phonecall from Autoglass, which surprised me as I thought I'd have to chase them. They now have the right part for the rear view mirror to fit on the windscreen. So it'll be fitted on the 21st which works out well as I can MOT her a month early from the 23rd, I'm aiming for no advisories but I'm not holding my breath, they have to find something I suppose.
