I also really wouldn't want the postman/post office to decide which of my post is to be 'junk mail' and which is not.

It isn't harmless, it's ecologically, environmentally AND, increasingly, socially unacceptable. As those responsible have no moral conscience they must learn that it is no longer financially viable. It can be stopped very easily.

The Post Office have a duty to deliver whatever is consigned to them - it is for the addressee to determine whether they are prepared to accept it.

And sticking it back in the postbox marked return to sender ngives the Royal Mail more work and more chance of keeping post offices open [emoji4]

MikeT wrote: 02 Jun 2017, 13:20 I've just got my renewal in the post today from Hastings Direct. Was £233.04 last year (which I had to haggle over) and they want £279.65 this year (20% increase) which I consider unjustified. They'll get a call from me soon demanding a satifactory reduction or I'll shop elsewhere (again).

ETA: I just noticed this paragraph at the bottom of my renewal notice;

You have been with us for a number of years. You may be able to get the insurance cover you want at a better price if you shop around

:roll:

I just called Hastings Direct to challenge their 20% renewal price hike and inform them no thanks, only to find it's way cheaper today, so I've renewed it. Make of that, what you will.

You were lucky there - Hastings have a reputation for making it almost impossible to dump them.
I almost insured with them a couple of years ago but didn't due to negative comments.

I have just received my renewal notice and it is less than last year :)
LV=. Have insured with them several times in the past and they have always been good to deal with except just after they bought Frizell and their prices increased dramatically.
I re-insured with them last year mainly due to inertia but they were only £20 more than the very cheapest (Hastings again) so an easy decision.

I've learnt to make myself clear when taking a new policy that I do not give my consent for them to auto-renew. It makes it easy for me to leave them. Interestingly, the threat to leave always results in an acceptable discount.

I don't care if LV are not quite the very cheapest as their excellent customer service is worth a few quid more...

For me, as I've said, with my Boundless (CSMA) and house insurance discounts they are unbeatable... All my cars are with them, as is my home and contents...

I have always found them to be very pleasant and helpful.
Also, if phoning, you speak to one person only, who sorts everything out. No passing back and forth.
