not quite Steve ..

- yesterdays pics are all in reverse time order, I forget to say
long story short.. new engine turned up Saturday morning.. old engine was removed soon after.. new unit looks - and is - an exact copy of old.. I set about swapping some bits for the rest of weekend, and the rain held off.. Gearbox refit was tricky this afternoon.. lining up Torque Converter openings with lugs on the input shaft plus all the splines while grabbing 80 KG of box was harder then I remember, even with the crane I still managed at least an hour for this bit.. tipex was useful in showing locations after the engine and box were closing in.
So, a week after buying the car with a hopeful oil pump fail, I have brought another engine, and during evenings after work and 1 weekend I am nearly ready to drop the new unit in.. but it feels a rollercoaster somehow.. I think a lot of us know how to do a 'Haynes job' on every aspect of this refit (and I would love to).. but I have other pressures against me..
So, I neglected to buy and change the rear crank seal.. no obvious signs of leakage and I wanted the box on today...
I haven't changed the cambelt (donor car was 60K allegedly)
I have checked the turbo has no movement..
I have changed the oil filter
but I now have a bit of time.. a small bit.. with the engine still out I can do things to help it, if it starts and runs ok..
Today I detected the turbo on the old engine had gone.. and that engine had excess oil in the pipework..
this donor engine has some oil presence in the pipes, as does my everyday C5 110..
I don't really know if the original engine suffered turbo then oil pump or vice versa..
The turbo oil feed pipe has a long filter on, and I need to read up on the 1.6 engine and issues with that.. if the filter should be cleaned changed or removed I still have time before refit..
the oil in the bellhousing pic is dark, but red.. so I am sure its my tranny fluid and not engine oil...
I cant see the gearbox would come out with the engine in place, but I am not 100% on this
removing the turbo in situ would be painful.. but it always is with a rear mount turbo on an inclined motor.
may have more thoughts tomorrow..
