Get some injectors too if you can john.

My car still has issues starting, but thanks to RichardW I swapped my injectors, and the car is perfectly fine now.

Your car should be starting on that 86bar... its enough to start it..

I was getting simmilar cranking pressures but she still wouldnt go. Swapped injectors and my cutting out has gone.

DONT pay silly money for injectors, Ive another set here that I DO know work...

thanks paul.. sorry I thought the big difference between the two numbers was the reason it wouldn't start.. :O

No.. The large number is the ECU reference for the engine to IDLE... the engine should start at 89 bar and then increase the pressure to the 288bar which is idle pressure.... When you press the throttle, that 288 bar increases, then the pressure measured then increases to rise engine speed..

My dads little C2 HDi starts on 46 bar and then idles at around 288 bar...

thanks Paul .. so the fact its climbing high after many turns proves the HP delivery is ok.,. I,e, lift pump, fuel pump, filter,,

but the injectors are not sending fuel on?
could the injectors be closing because of battery.. bearing in mind it seems in good condition and turns engine at 250 ish RPM?

Hi John.. yea, the engine pump can only pressureise so much at slow speed...

No, i doubt they are closing off, they work on a low voltage anyway... but they may just simply might not be opening on the electronic side of things..

hmm.. that sounds like the injectors may not be the problem Paul..

Don't know what to test really.. would your first port of call still be to get some injectors and try them? bearing in mind the fact car runs perfectly but doesn't start..

Well, my car has just done this.. see my blog.. she became an issue to start, but ran perfectly fine when running..

So, Yes, Id say injectors... Tell you what, rather waste money, would you like me to send you a used set next week to try?

I know where theres a set that work at the farm. Are you ok to wait? Ill do my best to get them monday if the weather is dry..

If they work then good, we could sort something, if they dont you havent wasted any money and you could send them back..??

I thought 2.0 HDi needed 120 bar to start (which you are above), but maybe it is more. Is there any sign it's injecting fuel, John (smoke out the tail pipe)? Is it a Bosch or Siemens system - Bosch has an in tank pump, Siemens doesn't, and has a hand primer under the bonnet. Siemens will be sensitive to a LP side leak sucking in air, whereas, a Bosch system won't ( it will leak all over the floor instead!). Does the Lexia indicate cam coming into synch when it's cranked? Poor starter appears to be a source of poor starting on C5 HDis, but I'd have thought it should go at 250 rpm! It might be worth doing a leak off test while you crank it - if one injector has developed a bad leak off, then it will show even at cranking.

I thought they needed 120 plus to start, but that appears to be not the case with the lexia connected and watching when spinning over, mine fired on 68bar last week, then built up to 289 at 805 rpm...

nothing interesting so far from the Lexia I am guessing chaps? (just wondered what the negative flow correction was on Injector 4? )

Started car again today, with easystart... so a relief now at least I can use it..
Went to fit a new Fuel Filter at lunch, but ECP have sent a slightly different one.. are there two types fitted to HDi's - anyone know >? :)

answered,., Bosch and Siemens.. learning all the time..
If anyone wants a brand new Bosch filter, I make you nice price....

worth mentioning several very small metallic items in Fuel Filter housing..

is there and obvious way to test lift pump is doing anything at all? If it was buggered, it could be quite easily causing my starting issues? .. I do know its a common fault,,

hi Taffy.. I may not have written my post well.,,

car still doesn't come close to starting in the morning,, but then again I haven't actually done anything yet to fix it.. been a busy couple of weeks,,

but at least a quick squirt of easy start will get the car running, then its fine all day !
Will throw some injectors in, will throw the brand new battery in, will change filters.. but hate to waste money if I am not fixing the cause,.,
whilst I like the Lexia, as yet it doesn't seem to tell me or anyone why my car wont start when cold :O - which I guess I was hoping it would tell us,,somehow,,

yea its a mine field as i see it now :(
well that injector looks WAY out comparred to the others...perhaps its starvin the other clyninders of enough pressure to combust properly and espeacially cold the fueling needs to be spot on :) go to a big scrappy and see wat u can find :)
