Your not a fan of Uniroyals then? Ive heard nothing but good reports about them up till now.

What model of Uniroyal were they?

The RainSportsIIs look excellent, and the new RainExperts get great reviews too.

I had Uniroyal Rallye 550s on the Xantia and have RainSport II on the C5.

I read the tyre reviews that Autoexpress did and found that the difference between the best and worst tyres in the dry was a few percent but in the wet the difference was measured as high as 25% with the budget / no-name brands mostly at the bottom end in terms of wet weather performance. The Uniroyals were either top or close to top in the wet and had low rolling resistance too (i.e. good fuel economy) that and their reasonable price made them the logical choice for me.

In practice, they do perform well in the wet and the car felt much less nervous in the snow this year than it had last year on Michelins.

I have Rainsport 2 on the Coupé. I'll vouch for how good they are. They were great in the snow, probably helped me out of serious trouble on Christmas Day and they are simple fantastic in all weather.

Unfortunately they don't make them in the Activa fitment so I shall be going for the Rain Expert. Both tread patterns constantly get great reviews.

Chris, aren't the Rain Expert an older design to the Rainsport?

I don't know what model of Uniroyals they were, other than being Euro part-worns and German made. A basic non-directional tread of smallish blocks.

One advantage of driving a lot of miles, is tyres aren't on for that long so a bad choice disappears soon enough. I chew through front tyres, and always shift the rears forward.
