I paid $6000 for the SX estate - with a puncture, two tyres older than the car, four flat spheres, a leaky heater core, two cracked door hinges, low gas in the aircon, unwashed for over a year, black oil, coolant leaking from the water pump, dry rotted wiper blades, malfunctioning rear wiper, flat batteries in the remote and it needed a timing belt plus other engine consumables.
Our cars are built to Australian Standards - more stringent than UK market in terms of crash protection from some angles, more cussed in other details being (legally) unacceptable interchanges. Private imports are not easy; they're do-able but it's a dose of mucking about as you have to live in the UK for a period beforehand while owning it...
So, for that reason of exclusivity plus the locally high prices, the vendor will get good money for his vehicle. It won't be at all corroded, either.
