The Apprentice is back. This take on it from Mitchell and Webb from 12 years ago, reflected the 2022 vintage in the first episode to perfection.

I only ever watched the first couple of episodes and got bored with the obvious 'staged' aspect of the tasks. Always has amused me that real life is so uninteresting but 'reality' shows have proved so popular. Conclusion? It just aint reality!! :(

Those without prime can see most of the show here, just click on the first and let it run.

Watched it on catch up today, good to see it back, always interesting. Liked Derek quoting or misquoting Henry Ford.

BBC2 is currently showing "H is for Hawk; A New Chapter" with Helen MacDonald both following a family of wild Goshawks and training one. Her book "H is for Hawk" was a huge success, but, tragically, only a couple of years after she got her first Goshawk, Mabel, she died of a respiratory fungal infection. This new Goshawk (name of Lupin) is a lot larger than Mabel was, and calmer.

You will have to watch this on the BBC iPlayer, but I have just seen an incredible programme. "Extraordinary Portraits" is, as the title suggests, about unusual portraits. Today the subject was a young (late twenties) lady who had, when she was nineteen, been on a coach that was involved an accident and caught fire. She had 90% burns, and was put in an induced coma for three months. Even then she was not expected to survive. Obviously she did, and when she had to have skin grafts her parents and siblings were skin donors. The artist met her at her home, and they went for a walk in the surrounding countryside, to her 'happy place'. He took a lot of photographs, and then spent 650 hours producing an incredible pencil portrait of her.
