It appears my 3500th post has crept up on me so time for the routine celebratory picture. For 3500 there is a very obvious choice as the Rover 3500 V8 is probably one of the most frequently used and abused engines in history but in order to make it a celebratory picture I felt I needed some sort of a connection. so having been the proud owner of no less than 4 Reliants in my time I felt this had to be my V8 choice:

Hands up all those who expected to see a Scimitar? :-D :-D

Love those pictures Neil 😍

On my run this morning I discovered what I believe may be the very last sodium streetlight left in Paggers :o

It stands alone in a sea of garish LED lights and I wonder how this one survived when all its brethren were replaced?

It's on borrowed time as all production of sodium lamps worldwide has now ceased  A shame as I much prefer the warm sodium glow over the harsh white of the modern LED...

The very last sodium lamp factory in the world was in Scotland I believe...

I'll be looking out for any more survivors on my runs now...

Still a few here although most are turned off, like the one on my house, which was on all the time for several years.
They were supposed to replace them with LEDs on March 27th but something has delayed them.
They did fit LED streetlights but they are too widely spaced to be properly useful so are reinstating those on buildings.

Like this one over the road.

Am I right in thinking that as they "warmed up" the sodium lamps changed from a red glow turning to an orange before the full yellow emerged :?:

Indeed you are Neil, although the last ones we had went from the red switch on state to the full glow quite quickly!! :)

Thanks Mick/Steve.....

I have just noticed that Steve has blasted through the 18,000 posts barrier, so as a Celebration Mick I'm going to select at pure random one of steves 18000 posts to bring forward into POTD just for my own amusement.... :-D

Ah....very interesting, I think I have discovered Dark Matter.

Steves Post Count is 18,003, but click on show users posts there are 984 pages of 15 posts and one page of 12 posts a total of 14,772 posts displayed.....so is there a dark administrators web on the FCF where they post and chat about us ordinary mortal non-administrators :-D where Steve has posted 3,231 posts :-D

So anyway looks like the pool for a random selection is 14,772 :-D

Could it be that the total number of posts includes PMs and emails via the FCF? In which case there is definitely dark matter involved :-D

The topic was

We have a 70w sodium light in our yard, its on a time switch and comes on every night. The first one lasted about 30 years! we replaced it 10 years or more ago and that one is still going strong. If I had waited a bit longer I could have fitted an LED one.
