I've stuck to Windows 10. Maybe once I get my NAS set up to also serve gaming VMs I might try switching to linux again.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with Win10 as my daily driver though.

Yup , aside from the car trouble posted in the Citroen forum I've popped back here a few times since I last posted, with the intent of posting but always end up doing something else.

Ooh no he's not, I'm very happy with windows 10, funnily enough I was happy with 98, Millenium, and 7, they've always worked fine for me.

I've just spent the last hour and a half trying to get the Windows 10 machine in this house to connect to our NAS. It has been doing so just fine for the last year just fine, but today for some reason has decided that it can't see it at all.

Everything else in the house can, including several Linux machines, one running Windows 7, and even the one running Windows for Workgroups 3.11. Just the Win10 box has decided it doesn't want to see it.

It can see one of the shared folders...Just not the other. They're both folders on the same physical drive...Heck, even the same partition...

I decided to give up at that point and suggested for about the 50th time to its owner to consider either Linux or to take it outside and set fire to it. I'm sure I'll come back to it tomorrow and the blasted thing will just randomly have decided to work again...

It's fine for me. I've got it set up with a dual boot with Linux, which I'd remove if I could work out how to get rid of the bootloader without destroying windows!

It still makes me laugh that everyone seems to think that if you run Linux that you spend all day typing in line after line of code to do anything.

97% of the time I use the terminal it's simply because it's quicker than the graphical equivalent route. Especially installing/removing software. Another 2% is using Get-iPlayer because it's simple enough that I've never bothered to use the GUI for it. The remaining 1% is the once every six months or so I might need to execute something I don't have an icon or menu entry for - usually to sort out the graphics tablet which doesn't play nicely with dual monitors (it doesn't under Windows either...).

Virtually every time I have to fix anything under Windows 7 or 10 the first step almost invariably seems to be run > cmd...

Today sure enough it's decided that it can see the media library...Though the temp and web shares have now vanished!

...Still, at least I can copy over the last couple of transcoded movies now, which is what I started out trying to do yesterday...

Just been playing with Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon...

Very impressed... I know it's Ubuntu under the skin and none the worse for that but the Cinnamon desktop/user interface is bloody excellent...

I'll need to give it a look someday. Using Mint here, but with the MATE desktop - basically a fork off from Gnome 2.6 which didn't include a lot of the weirdness that came along with Gnome 3.0.

...which for me was exactly what the doctor ordered in terms of a pretty seamless transition from when Ubuntu 10.04LTS ran out of support.

I'd tend to think that it's just me being autistic that found changing to Gnome 3.0 or Unity to be too jarring...but the fact there's a whole release centred around what was essentially "Ubuntu 7 (and probably earlier)-10 but updated under the hood and with a different label on" suggests it wasn't just me!

I have been using both Cinnamon and Mate for about a year (Mate by mistake but it is OK).
All are Debian derived anyway.
There is a Mint Debian too - somewhat more bare bones IIRC.
