Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
There is a similarity between Mazzy Star (above) and Cowboy Junkies (below) and someone mentioned it to Jon Robek. He had never heard of them and refused to listen to them in case it influenced his thinking,
They both have a theme of 'quiet desperation' woven into their music.
I had a three-hour wait in my car last night and this album came up. A while since I have heard it and always a pleasure, especially when it is unexpected. It is on a USB dongle along with tons of other music and only comes round two or three times a year,

Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
Joan Baez used to do a version of this that was superb but all the current ones on youtume are too 'sweet'.
This is more like the one I was looking for but still not quite there.
Was looking for it after this popped up in my recommendations.
I had no idea that Bob Dylan had written it.

What other jukebox in the entire world would you find the theme tune to "Listen with Mother" on it.
Very soothing! Nicked the famous catchphrase from it for my tale on "Pubs Gallery and the odd hotel" today

Now that ticks my own interesting box and an added bonus to the Selection of the Crown. You cant beat a bit of an odd pointless but interesting quest, and congratulations to our N Chadwick for dreaming it up.The Crown by N Chadwick For TQ1875, taken 2023-02-18
A few years ago I read a book by Mark Mason "Walking the lines" in which he walked the route of the London Underground lines, overground. I will repeat this visiting all 272 stations (some more than once). My route tries to follow the line of the railway as closely as possible, using footpaths and roads, deviations are made to make the walk more "interesting".
See other images of Walking the lines
Yes and the "See other images of "Walking the lines" link on the geograph page reveals this
Neil
Walking the line, you say ?

Re: P.E.Jukebox-Post a track make the link!
With the sad news of the death of Ryuichi Sakamoto, it's only fitting I repost this glorious track.
It seems like only a couple of years ago that I prompted Neil in the direction of this track, but it turns out it was 5½ years ago
Right.... I'm off to play the 12" version on the record player and have a long whisky.... I may be some time

Why not ? Although a stop at the intermediate station makrked Sylvian / Sakamoto might be beneficial
Not sure of their 'best tracks', but their first releases - Firecracker, Yellow Magic, and Computer Game bring back the best memories for me![]()
Regards NeilEDit just have to put in your suggested interim stop. If you enjoy David Sylvian's voice which I do its an absolute treat!

While it is undoubtedly gauche to comment on a woman's appearance, while Indiara Sphair still looks great and possible even better than before, her bandmates have gone the other way.
Alina Mota was beautiful. A while back.

Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
Not music but a very powerful last line in the film, by Edward James Olmos.
One of my favourite films, I have a tin box full of all the different 'cuts'.
I must admit to seeing negligible difference in them though.
It helps to know that Ridley Scott lived in South Shields and that the scenes in the film were inspired by the industrial area around the Tees flyover, the ICI plant in particular, all gone now.
Mick will be familiar with it though.

Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
Inspired by Zel's computer startup.
I had a Marantz receiver, wooden case, second hand, thirty quid, and a pair of Dynatron speakers bought for four quid at a fleamarket.
This track sounded far better on that heap than on stuff costing hundreds of times more.
Same with this:
Specifically, the bit at the end of the countdown, at 3' 17". Thunderous on the old, cheap kit. Mush on anything else. The room trembled.

Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
A rare live performance video of one of the finest male voices I've ever heard
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Tangental link from todays 1930's Ironcrete lawn roller made by Scoffin and Willmott in Barking Essex, over on the trivia investigation thread.
The Tracks were "A man needs a Maid" and "There's a World"
Neil
Barking and District Historical Society had a bit of info for the thread, and also trailed "Neil Young Day" to be held in June 2023. In 1971 he recorded two tracks for his "Harvest Album" at Barking Town Hall.
