Is it Goathland?

No Paul but I agree it is very similar in appearance to the one at Goathland. The answer can be deduced from the Wales Wander thread and yesterday's route! :-D

This barely qualifies as 'railway' and certainly not 'train' but they do run on rails and are sometimes referred to as a 'funicular railway', the significant bit being the 'fun'.

We drove past and partly through Saltburn on our way to Whitby yesterday. Saltburn is a small town with a remarkable history, similar to Bournville.
(And nothing to do with Sophie Ellis-Bextor)

As can be seen near the end, gravity driven using the weight of water, which can be seen filling the tank on the one at the top of the track.
Never been on it but have been on a similar one, which is/was in Scarborough.

Seems there were several around the country.

I'd be terrified to ride one of those  Likewise, cable-cars... Never can I return to Alton Towers after an 'incident' involving me and a cable-car...

I'm sure I've related the tale here in the past...

Fear of heights is one thing I've had since early childhood and never conquered. I get worse now by the year/month/day...

And no, I'm not planning on trying to resolve it. Been there, tried that. Failed.

One reason I'll not not be taking trips in any sort of aeroplane ever again. Even traversing some high bridges in a car can make me distinctly uneasy :(

Such is life - that and claustrophobia...

A train is about the only form of long'ish distance public transport I'm vaguely happy to travel on.

Really wasn't sure where to put this - but figured things involving Deltic engines were probably most relevant here...

Didn't realise the Americans had crammed one into a behemoth of a fire tender!

That must have been quite something to see in operation. Apparently had enough grunt to knock down walls with the main water cannon if you weren't careful.
