Re: Eolys?
Hi Marc,
Could you please check which eolys my c5 takes and quantity needed on the refill light's first appearance.
Is there a safe mileage that can be driven after the warning appears?
Vin VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
I had it topped up around 55k miles but warning now again at 85k miles. Seems short. Any thoughts on why other than not enough used in the top up?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Eolys?
Did you top up at 55k because of a warning message? Did you reset the Eolys counter using Diagbox or a high end code reader?

You need Eolys EXTEND (black) for your C5 with this specific build date.deckoil wrote: 21 Mar 2023, 01:47 Hi Marc,

When it was last topped up whoever did it may only have added 1 litre, which is the minimum top up amount that should be used on this system. Sometimes this is done to prevent waste as quantities are available in 1 or 3 litre containers for reservoir type systems, so purchasing a 3 litre kit may have been wasteful if it only needed a small top up, given the cost of the fluid.
As there is no way to ascertain an accurate amount of additive in the tank remaining, without physically removing, emptying and measuring the volume, mechanics just tend top it up with a 1 litre container, rather than refill it to the brim.
Although a bit more expensive to purchase in smaller quantities, you may want to get a couple of 1 litre bottles, but the fluid can't be kept once opened, so won't be any good if not used immediately.

Re: Eolys?
Thanks Marc,
It was an independent garage that added eolys when I got the last warning. I don't know how much they added but I assume they reset the counter as the message disappeared.

Re: Eolys?
Is Extend a brand name? I've read through other posts where reference to eolys include these options:
'Your additive is specific and so you cannot use Eolys 176, Infineum F7995 or Eolys Powerflex you must use Eolys DPX42'

Re: Eolys?
It is not a brand as such, it is the name for the specific additive to be used. The C5 X7 has to use this type as opposed to the others you mentioned above for your build number.

Re: Eolys?
Hi again....sorry to ask again. I found a specialist supplier of European car parts. I told them I needed extend. They asked for my vin number to verify. Fluid arrived today ..(amazing, by courier overnight 1000kms. I ordered yesterday afternoon!). It is 3l of 'fap eolys 176'. When asked, they said that's correct for my vin. Didn't know anything about extend and they supply lots of this stuff. Could cars sent to oz be different?

Just off phone to parts supplier. They accept they made an error and are replacing it. They asked how I spotted it and I told them about you guys. They backed down immediately.....such international clout!

About another car....my son drives a 2012 Picasso 2l diesel. He bought it cheap and it runs ok but blows a bit of black smoke on moving off and in lower gear changes. I wondered about dpf additive, especially since I've read unscrupulous sellers can reset the counter but not add any additive. Could this be worth checking with these symptoms?

DO NOT put this anywhere near your car. Send it back and get a refund. It is incorrect and the supplier has no clue obviously.
The C5 X7 has specific requirements and only older C5 X7 models with a build date of up to 12075 (30th November 2009) used Eolys 176. The C5 X7 from build date 12076 (1st December 2009) must use Eolys EXTEND.
Also, when I say 'build date' I mean just that, not registration date, but factory build date. Your C5 X7 was has a build date (RPO) of 12968 (11th May 2012).

Re: Eolys?
If the vehicle is fitted with a particulate filter, there should be no black smoke unless there is a fuelling issue, but that would tend to be more dark blue.deckoil wrote: 23 Mar 2023, 07:33 About another car....my son drives a 2012 Picasso 2l diesel. I would be inclined to check that the DPF has not been 'gutted' or removed by an unscrupulous seller / previous owner. Look for signs of tampering just under the catalytic section where the DPF is usually housed. Look for signs of cutting / welding anywhere on the catalytic / DPF housing / casing.
A professional diagnostic should be undertaken to determine if there are any fault codes and whilst at it, look for DPF regeneration history and other data to see if anything looks suspicious.

Hi Colin!
I'm sorry to bother you, but I too have the "particle additive low" light on my C5. It's a 2010 2.0HDI 163 Vin: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. I was wondering if you know what kind of fluid it takes please? it's all very confusing!
Many thanks!
Noel

I'm Marc, Not Colin!
I've copied your request here from the Private Message you sent me as I don't provide support via PMs (see my post footnote).
To answer your question Noel, you need Eolys EXTEND for your build date for the C5 X7 specifically.
