Good work achieved this evening
One very tidy and well-organised garage all ready to commence work on a sick V6. I never knew I could make so much room in it but then again my car is full to the gunwales with junk and rubbish ready to take down the tip tomorrow.
I even laid a few carpet tiles on some bare areas of the concrete floor
The patio in the back garden now sports a collection of gearboxes under wraps. Goes well with the six wheels already adorning it
Luckily, the patio is pretty well hidden from all eyes so there's no worries about complaints from neighbours about an unsightly patio.

We could do with you here
Our garage is full of everything, if you look carefully you can just about make out an old Citroen hiding under 3 years of dust
I dont know how we manage to have so much stuff, one day ill have a good clear out but until the car is back together its hard to get the room to sort things out.
Good luck with the V6
Good luck with the V6

Thanks Mike but I'm OK. Last year I got hold of a load of second-hand industrial quality carpet tiles just before they ended up in a builders skip following an office refurbish. Those tiles are now laid in my garage, completing the job I started last evening. I'm now free of bare concrete and that will help keep the dirt and dust at bay for the gearbox rebuild. Also, it's easier on my kneesMikeT wrote:Hi Jim, I got some carpet left over, how much concrete area is still showing in your garage?
This gives and idea of my garage now:

The bulbs I ordered for the heater panel arrived today and in failing light this afternoon I fitted them. They're good and the right ones.
I now have a full complement of interior lights in my car now

Looks very neat Jim 8) my garage looks like someone has put glue on the walls and ceiling then put it on a spin cycle, although its much clearer now ive found a home for my engine hoist and the Gear box has gone back together, carpet is great it is much easier on the knees and soaks the oil up a treat if you have any accidents

And the advantage with the tiles is that if any get really badly soaked, I have enough spares to replace them.Deanxm wrote:and soaks the oil up a treat if you have any accidents![]()

You'd be staggered at how much oil runs out of a 4HP20 when you pull it apart

Damit thats a good idea, i wrote off almost half my collection of good cotton rags with the unexpected D2 oil spillage i had on the stripdown, and good clean cotton bath towels arent given up to me by swmbo easilyTesco Value nappies are ideal for this task and very cheap.

No that is good i agree, bearing in mind its auto, and not a light car. Ever thought of running a slightly thinner oil, and pumping the tyres up a bit more over spec?CitroJim wrote:Nor my present one eitherXantiaMan583 wrote: Still not better than your old Activa![]()
Best is 37 so far...
I still think 35 from a 3.0L auto is not bad though... It was running on BP Ultimate.
