Makes you think children should perhaps not be named until they can choose their own Stevemyglaren wrote: 31 Oct 2024, 17:03 My youngest son is the same, officially a James but always known as Bob.
Youngest daughter is a Laura, but always known as Lilly, from her elder brother calling her 'lilly (little) Laura' as she was tiny. The people she works for don''t know who 'Laura' is.

Re: Meeting arrangements
An interesting idea Jim, but one I fear is fraught with difficulty. Firstly there is a good chance that any given generation would all want to name themselves after the hero of the time, so you could end up with a class full of Peppas or Bobs etc. Then there is the other issue that 2/3 year olds would not take the future into consideration and just pick the name they loved the most, I would have probably called myself Sooty!!CitroJim wrote: 31 Oct 2024, 17:10 Makes you think children should perhaps not be named until they can choose their own Steve![]()

Yes, just shows there a lot of devil in the detail Mickmickthemaverick wrote: 31 Oct 2024, 17:22An interesting idea Jim, but one I fear is fraught with difficulty. Given the choice, Autumn is likely to call herself Bluey - after her favourite TV show

Re: Meeting arrangements
Eldest daughter is called Annika, as we lived in Sweden when she was born.
She will never forgive us for that as everyone assumes she was named after Annika Rice.

But it's spelled differently! Anneka Rice,
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

But that is rarely known. Most can't even pronounce it correctly.

Lad is called Samuel, because he looked like one when he was born. He was going to be called Mario or Sebastian, we even had some gifts sent - a wooden name plaque with Mario on it... he just looked like a Sammy though

Re: Meeting arrangements
I went with Shush Hell as I read your handle as Mick Hell and not wanting to use your boys name without permission. The alternative would of been Cushelle.......
