Re: C5 X7 ambient lighting (and some other bits and pieces)
Good question, can't remember actually ... but I did notice it is a more pleasant smell (not roses, though) than the Nigrin Cleaner I've tested just a few days earlier (had to make distance from the car to inhale fresh air) ...

I asked about the smell as mercaptans are generally pretty disgusting.

That's probably where scents & limonene come in handy ...myglaren wrote:I asked about the smell as mercaptans are generally pretty disgusting.

Re: C5 X7 ambient lighting (and some other bits and pieces)
I've managed to find a suitable TPMS connector (at least I hope it is), brand new, without the pins & wires (I believe I already have the matching ones at home from my previous projects) ... hopefully it fill arrive by the end of the month, and then it is testing time ...

Without the light-bulbs and the snow, yeah ... pretty much ... ... though the steering rack issue isn't a planned gift to myself ...

Re: C5 X7 ambient lighting (and some other bits and pieces)
Still no progress on the android phone-car screen capability ... today I've received a 3-port OTG micro USB HUB ... the phone can get charged, and any other devices connected to the hub will get charged, but no connection to the phone, probably the phone (eve though it has Cyanogen Mod Android) doesn't have OTG drivers ... and so far I haven't managed to find them online (some links are dead, since this was interesting a few years ago) ... the hub looks like this:
Regarding the license plate's lights, still haven't figured out why they won't turn on automatically when needed, the only "cure" is to manually switch from auto to 0 and then back to auto ...

Well, I've found the missing drivers thanks to a helpful member on xda ... but, still no cigar ... ... I'm so close I could almost smell the data from the stick while it is connected to the phone ...vborovic wrote:the phone can get charged, and any other devices connected to the hub will get charged, but no connection to the phone, probably the phone (eve though it has Cyanogen Mod Android) doesn't have OTG drivers ... and so far I haven't managed to find them online (some links are dead, since this was interesting a few years ago)

Re: C5 X7 ambient lighting (and some other bits and pieces)
That's Lt. Data ... not the data ... ... anyways, I've tried unplugging and cleaning the license plates LED lights today, nothing gained .. upon starting the engine, if the low beams are on, the LEDs don't work ... I've also figured out that it's not necessary to turn the stalk switch to 0 and then back to auto ... the light sensor also does the trick (tried by putting an obstacle above it, and removing it ... when I put it back, the LEDs will work ) ... could it be that the car's battery is low that when the engine cranks the car switched off some extra's that aren't required in that moment?

Re: C5 X7 ambient lighting (and some other bits and pieces)
Have you tried this at night? As you've said, the light sensors do have a say - e.g. during the day with the navigation on, when there are overhanging trees on the road and it goes darker, my headlights will switch on - but the navigation screen will not go into 'Night' mode. So it knows when it is appropriate to dim the navigation display. Would it be the same for the number plate lights? Only going on at night?

Re: C5 X7 ambient lighting (and some other bits and pieces)
Day or night doesn't have anything to do with it the way I'm testing (it can be day outside, but if I cover the photo-sensor on the windshield, the car will think it is night) ... so, once again from the top:
- if there is a need for low beams upon starting the car (night or covered photo sensor) the license plate LEDs won't turn on (and at this point I can get the BSI error that the [-] polarity has issues on the license plates' lights)
- if I turn the light selector switch to 0 and then back to Auto, the license plate's LEDs will turn on
- similar as point 2, I don't need to do anything with the light stick the photo sensor (if I remove the cover from it or make it like it is day eve though it is night outside), the license plate's LEDs will turn on
- if there isn't a need for low beams upon starting the car, the license plate's LEDs won't turn on (which is normal, of course) - no [-] polarity error is detected ... if there is a need for low beam lights (tunnel or I cover the sensor), the license plate's LEDs will turn on
I've tried to make it as short as possible ...
