Mick and Jim

She lives! Still ran like a bag of nails until I unplugged the MAF fine now. I have only done a bodge job with a connector block, I have to sleeve and solder the leads. I will swap the MAF with the on in the scrap car - that shouldn't be to difficult.

Doesn't look as though you can Kenny, I cut it off with about 6" of wire on it and will solder onto the existing leads using heat shrink sleeving. Not had time today will probably do it tomorrow.

Mick and Jim.

Well, sorted it yesterday, soldered and hot shrink sleeved the joints, not easy with your head under the wing, however goes like a train, never been so smooth, that is with the MAF disconnected. I went to get the MAF from the car in the field and its different, it has two plugs, another short one on the opposite side to normal long one, never seen anything like it. Looks as though I will have to buy one  .

Have you or Jim ever driven the hydropnumatic version, with the roads as they are now I wonder if it would be worth the change.

Thanks again for all the help from Jim and yourself.

No I haven't Peter, the closest I came was my Mk1 C5 with its Hydractive 3 which would have been good now but my Legacy with all round coil springs is a pretty smooth ride since the renewal of all the shocks and springs earlier this year! :-D

Well done for getting it fixed properly and it does make you wonder if it was getting the occasional blip in the crankshaft sensor reading causing a bit of rough running. As it is now smooth it does go to show how important clean connections can be!! :)

Thanks Mick

I ran the XM and CX hydros and they were excellent but its to long ago for me to remember, and the roads were better then!

That's great news Peter :D

I've only ever been a passenger in a Hydro C5X and I have to say it was one of the most comfy rides ever. They are superb :D

Thanks Jim

I have been considering getting one as the state of the roads round here is appalling, as you may have noticed! I have had all the others CX, BX and XM, not the DS although I would like one, that looks really soft. I don't know that I want the added complexity with an electric fluid pump and hand brake. I am trying to get a ride in one but they all seem to be at the other end of the country, except the very expensive ones!

That's what I did with the plug. I ended up with a spare original, so I stripped it done and rewired this one. Thought it would be handy having a spare.

No use to me now since C5 has been sold.

There are several other 3 pin plugs on the scrap car but don't know if they are compatible. I went out in it today and its brilliant, its the first time since I have had it that the throttle pedal does what you ask it to - but that's still with the MAF disconnected. It is doing another thing I have never seen before, in the speedo centre display it keeps telling me what road I am in, also has a compass with a blue needle. Is it supposed to do that or has it had a nervous breakdown?

Still having problems I'm afraid, since fitting the new crankshaft sensor and connector it now at least drives except for a slight misfire now and again without the MAF plugged in, with the MAF plugged in the old 'flat spot' has reappeared, I have tried another MAF, still the same. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Peter
