Maybe the alternator has seized?

They just got back to me. Apparently there's play in the alternator (I assume they mean the shaft) so a new alternator is also being added to the list of things to replace. Even worse is that the only place they could source it from on short notice wants damn-near 500 quid for it. This car's going to bankrupt me.

My account accidentally got deleted late Dec '23, so if you're reading my posts from then or earlier and they look weird / are missing media, that's why. There's no fix, sorry.

Ouch. Hopefully it's decent new / not remanufactured for that price.
I paid for a new (not chinese overhaul) one from Autodoc - £318+VAT, but that does have over a week lead time for delivery.

Yeah, I'm hoping so too. I was looking at all the cheap ones on AD but they all seem to be refurbs.

It wasn't immediately obvious to me when I looked through them on Autodoc, whether they were new or refurb - I went off looking up the suppliers to see which they did (and where they manufacture!) and selected based on that.

Yeah, AutoDoc hide it in the drop down of the spec list. I only found it by accident when I was looking for current ratings.

Got it back yesterday. As it turns out the high pitched "woo" noise I was hearing above 3K RPM wasn't turbo and induction noise as I thought. It must've been the pulleys screaming for mercy LOL. Additionally, they did the alternator swap the official way and drained the A/C loop...turns out I needed a re-gas as well. The aircon now cools much faster than it did before. Before it reached low temps but took ages. Now it's noticeably quicker.
