Re: C5 X7 rear hydraulic pipe-hose stainless substitute
Well done Martin (Svod) for fabricating these replacements, I wish that I'd known about them when my son needed pipes for his (my old) 2008 2.2 C5 Tourer. The indy garage we elected to use did manage to bodge up a flexible braided hose, a couple of years ago, but he had no previous Citroen suspension knowledge and the car has been on a downward slope ever since. We now cant find anyone in the Midlands area willing to repair the car for a realistic price and are about to offload it via "We Buy etc", or the scrap man. Such a pity as the rest of the car is amazing. Having owned Citroens continually since 1973, its very sad to see the lack of support offered by the manufacturer today, which certainly doesn't match my loyal support of the brand. That said, back in 1973 Citroen was a whole different and very exciting, ball game!

Re: C5 X7 rear hydraulic pipe-hose stainless substitute
I have been close to the scrap man recently but have managed to avoid it using a hydraulic pipe repair method created by Jay Bruce, I will be adding a post soon explaining what I had to do, any willing mechanic can work on a Citroën, they just need to think a bit.
I don't think "we buy" will buy it and scrap value is about £200!
Good luck

Re: C5 X7 rear hydraulic pipe-hose stainless substitute
Thanks Stu. Our car has a ruined pump, together with the suspension leaks. We're not competent to work on it and we've lost confidence in the adility of our local indy garage, I have found an excellent citroen specialist, 25 miles away, but he's just not interested in working on it, as he says getting parts etc makes this a nightmare. My son has taken it to another, so called specialist at Worcester, where he lives, but they've come back with a list of faults, many of which he didn't ask them to look into and the prices they're talking about are into the £1000's of pounds. I'm afraid that it's just totally uneconomic to continue with. Such a shame as the rest of the car is fantastic, particularly the 2.2 engine.

That would cost more than the car is worth.........Piotr Kurten wrote: 30 May 2024, 19:03OK but what about an authorized service partner for Citroën ?citroen since 1973 wrote: 28 May 2024, 15:09 Our car has a ruined pump, together with the suspension leaks. Does this friend of yours, sell your manufactured items? Or does he makes them himself? Are they also tested?
I need to convince my garage owner to use parts that do not come from Citroen...
Hope to hear, I'm kinda desparate for these parts. You could be my saviour and hero![]()

Re: C5 X7 rear hydraulic pipe-hose stainless substitute
Citroen finished production of the last C5 X7s way earlier than 2019! The only ones after that were using stock up. Only the exclusive and one or two engine variants were available in 2016. and even then some parts were becoming scarce for some models.....

It's not a specific Citroen problem though is it? I've had part supply problems with virtually all the brands I've owned over the years.
Volkswagen have probably been the worst - I remember struggling to get power steering pipes for a Corrado in '97 and VW only stopped production in '95!

...and the pipes were corroded to the point of leaking on a seven year old car.

True, but the added problem with the X7's horrendously high failure rate of steering racks meant power steering pipes were drying up far earlier than normal as people struggled to get them and official supply was cut shortly end of production. I myself was on my third rack (original, a new OEM dealer replacement under warranty, and when that failed after a few years, a refurbished one), before I moved mine on. Unheard of.

Yes, and despite a law which states clearly that manufacturers must keep stock of all parts for ten years after production of a car has ended.GiveMeABreak wrote: 08 Aug 2024, 21:45 True, but the added problem with the X7's horrendously high failure rate of steering racks meant power steering pipes were drying up far earlier than normal as people struggled to get them and official supply was cut shortly end of production. Has anyone purchased and received any of these pipes, and how much are/were they?

No such law, it was an "agreement @ 7 years within the EU" ... recently there was an "agreement" to reduce that "to encourage the change to EV's" (hidden scrappage at the cost of the citizen ?) = We now have thousands of Chinese EVs being dumped into the market and struggling car makers within the EU....but BONUS, reduced "nasty" industry so we are going GREEN !GeorgeCarter wrote: 26 Sep 2024, 21:09Yes, and despite a law which states clearly that manufacturers must keep stock of all parts for ten years after production of a car has ended.GiveMeABreak wrote: 08 Aug 2024, 21:45 True, but the added problem with the X7's horrendously high failure rate of steering racks meant power steering pipes were drying up far earlier than normal as people struggled to get them and official supply was cut shortly end of production. Re: C5 X7 rear hydraulic pipe-hose stainless substitute
Agree, it's all a myth and never been a law, they'll only make parts for as long as it's profitable - and that's about the long and short of it. EU can say what they like as far as directives go but they are not enforceable (take a specialist supplier going bust).
