Re: Burst suspension pipe at rear

Thanks Marc once again,

I believe I have found the position of all the components but access is restricted. I don't know why the F01 within BPCB has blown, but in order to access these and test the relay which I believe sits on the inner wing covered by the LDS tank, this is also where the earth MC21 is located.

Genuine PSA fuse found and arriving later this week. Hydraulic strut to be ordered.

Will keep updating with info.

Thanks to EDC5 for the use of his photo as I believe this is the relay circled in red.

Well F/N/S hydraulic susp'n cylinder fitted, 40amp fuse fitted and now to check the hydraulic pump and relay.

Question, does the 50 amp relay have any means to prevent current surges ? As this could be the reason for the fuse to blow.

Anyone with a much better understand of car electrics can advise me and would it be worth while to fit a relay with a diode or resistor.

Replies gratefully received

The only reason I'm aware of the 50A fuse blowing is from overheating of the pump due to the carbon sludge created from the brush material and LDS getting in Kenny.

Thanks Marc,

I clean the pump when I had the car stripped to replace pipe, hence my questions, I'm going give it a check and the relay and then restart the system.

Will update once done.

Another update, check pump only a little carbon dust but more importantly, the brushes are close to the end of their life. Have order some online and will fit same.

Otherwise pump running fine but unable to pressurise system, my bike pump frozen. So no attempted to raise suspension.

I'm getting there.

Unofficially - you can get away with using compression fittings if you silver solder/braze the olive on to the pipe. Guess how I know. 8-[

XM's had a habit of breaking the high pressure pipe where it leaves the pump - usually because the accumulator sphere was flat, but I didn't discover that until I had replaced the pipe twice. The pipes were expensive and not very easy to fit so I tried soldering an olive on the end, that lasted about five minutes, but then I silver soldered it and it was still OK when I sold the car.

Thanks for that Kenny - they don't list that relay on the suspension parts at all - but it is listed as one of the 50 Amp relays for the engine fan assembly! So useful to know it is the same one as these.

Yes, always worth checking as I've found this a lot - ebay sellers don't keep updated with price fluctuations - PSA update their databases daily, so I've often found sellers on some items are charging far more than an original brand spanking new part from Citroen that has not sat on a shelf gathering dust for years.

Well attempted to get suspension to rise but the fuse has gone again. I suspect it's due to the amount of work the pump is trying to do.

I believe my carbon brushes are coming near to the end of their life and I think this is the problem.

Any other thoughts welcome
