I don't think you'd make your money back at all given you can get a complete runner with MOT for less, and there's an abundance of these cars in breaker's yards.. It would simply be hassle to break it, hassle to sell the parts, especially on the Internet. The vehicle is worth scrap value and no more - your £150 was about right. There's headlights on eBay now for £19.99 with free postage. I don't think it's a money making scheme at all!

Yes, agreed. It would be just one massive stress-o-thon... eBay especially... Have you tried selling anything there without issues recently? More trouble than it's worth and outrageous fees for the 'pleasure'

I'll tell you now Jim, unless the Berlingo sells on here, the Berlingo Forum, or to someone I know, with no hassle, it'll go and get stored under a car cover , wheels off, in my brother's mum-in-law's barn. I really can't be bothered with the stress and hassle of selling it. It's probably worth a grand but I'd take £750 off someone I know to have it gone and avoid the ballachery.

That's my philosophy entirely Mike... You know, I'm highly unlikely to sell a car ever again now... The Activa and Gabriel are for keeps and the Pug of Love should have years left in her... Hopefully those three will last out until I really no longer require a car...

The scrapyard is the most likely next destination for Gabriel and the Pug in many years time...

I did the same with a 2cv. I got it given, almost mint. Ran it for a year and sold it to some young lass who saw it at a petrol station - her and her mum were off to look at one miles away.

She wrote it off within 2 weeks, and gave it me back. I broke it and sold the bits for nearly a grand at the time.

The difference here is that there's neither 2CVs or BXs cluttering up the scrapyards or ebay like there is with C5s... hell, Davie bought his 2007 good condition runner for only £800 a while ago. £400 for one that's been stood in a field in bits with a window down is taking the proverbial.

I'm sure, when the time does eventually come for you to hang up the driving gloves, there'll be a queue of willing souls ready to take any car maintained by you Jim & unless you suddenly change tack and begin neglecting the cars they'll be as ready to keep on rolling as any Xantia could be at that time

Agree, 400 is more than I've paid for any car let alone an 11yr old one that's in bits and open to the elements. BSI/COMMS unit will have been full of water I'd imagine so there's some worthwhile sellers dead for a start. Worth £80 not a penny more IMO

the earliest C5`s are now 16 - I saw an o2 auto 2 litre exclusive se , on gumtree for £250, looked in really good condition as well
