I stopped buying cars that used oil too, thats why I never bothered sorting my Black SX TD Oil level sensor, as I knew it was lieing and the car didnt use oil.

What oil is in it Paul? The sensors on the older cars are known to act up if you use the wrong grade, or semi/full synth instead of the recommended mineral oil.

I must admit ive never used mineral in any of the td engines or my hdi ... when I did use it once it burnt it all off. So never again.10/40 semi ive always used in the xud and hdi.

It's likely that rather than anything else. For some reason, the sensors in older TD engines go funny with semi-synth. Obviously it doesn't do the motor any harm, just causes the sensor to freak out.

Thanks everyone. My car has done only 95000kms and as I bought the car the sensor was leaking and replaced with a genuine part. But still it flashes. I use 15w 40 mobil oil for my engine. Its a multi grade. Is it OK. I asked few technicians and said it can be also a broken wire some where which connects to the sensor.

i thought it actually states somewhere to use semi or fully synthetic ( of course i will have to double check this info )as senior moments get more frequent ,
even in the BX's and the likes

It definitely says mineral oil is good. I can't remember if it says mineral or synthetic. Probably.

I remember this because when I had my first Xantia I was doing around 1500 miles a week in it which meant an oil change every month, I was in the poor house so I put the cheapest oil that the manual said I could get away with in it, which was Halfords diesel mineral oil.

I have a handbook for a hdi in my hand and the diesel engine oil reccomended only says.. quartz diesel 7000 to an api standard of cf and an acea of B3.96 ... so what does all that mean??

Quartz diesel 7000 is a 10w40 semi synthetic oil. That's correct for the HDi. Obviously using a higher spec oil won't harm it.

Your 15/40 is fine for a hot climate like yours. In Uk I would use 10/40 semi synth in that engine.

Where is the oil level sensor is located. Is it on the front side or the exhaust side.

Still the same. I'm getting the two center spheres pressure checked on Tuesday. Based on the results, if there are OK then I will have to dig further to find the cause.
