In theory, yes. However, if you get ANPR'd, you're going to have to go to court to prove the legality of what you are doing.

If you get pulled with no T&T, plod may think you are taking the p**s - you are correct there is no mileage stipulation in the law, but it is still an offence to use an unroadworthy vehicle - MOT or not, on the highway, and they are perfectly entitled to call VOSA, and have them come and take it away for inspection... and of course, if it failed it's MOT, it's going to fail a VOSA inspection, so you'll still get nailed for it.

Its a tricky one i guess but if its being towed then it shows its Due diligence to a certain extent and that its not posing any great risk to the public at large. I've seen some right states on the road recently and was thinking of just covering the plates if its towed or doing the Citroen thing... Take a wheel off and stick it at full height and that way not all wheels are on the road ;)

hmm

I still think there is an expectation that if no MOT, then having one done at the nearest place to the car's location is deemed ok*, anything else is on shaley ground..I meant shakey lol.. although hydrocarbon exploration wise - both could mean the same ;)

I did get that from a plod.. for what it's worth

Why not simply trailer it? Save the creative schemes for dealing with the car once it's suitably SORN'd at your end. Less stress, too.

What about 24hr hire? Sure the RR can haul it. Or maybe a one way hire can be arranged?

I get my fingers in all sorts of dicey schemes, but the risk with this is too much - if you get pinged then you've a lot of work to clear the fines and preserve the points on your licence.

If you get ANPR'd, there's no arguing because the ANPR kit is live to DVLA/VOSA so the paperwork has to be done. I got pulled delivering an un-taxed (but freshly MoT'd) van on Trade Plates. Plod wouldn't see sense, "It comes up as uninsured and untaxed." "Can't have trade plates without motor trade insurance - check with VOSA." "We still have to issue a ('producer')". Then after waiting 20 minutes in the queue of a dozen other people, many of them vehicle delivery drivers, plod was happy to let me go, still officially "untaxed and uninsured". Then the hassle of taking the firm's insurance certificate to the local police station during the 2 hours it was open (now permanently shut). What a bloody waste of time for all concerned. And David Cameron has the audacity to claim his lot are making things simpler for small businesses!

I'm getting sorely tempted to offer myself as a UKIP candidate at the next general election.

I dont blame you Oldguy. The current state of affairs that means if a car is parked on the drive and still taxed for say 2-3months while having repairs or such done but no insurance makes it illegal is stupid! Surely they should be made to prove you would drive it on a road or such like :(

Might do the swapsies on it ;)

Youll be ok booking it in for an MOT and driving it. The only stipulation is that the test centre has to be a "reasonable distance", whatever that means. I.E how long is a piece of string.
