Thankyou!!

The Stage One Maikonics conversion consisted of a modified AEi computer and also a modification to the top of the wastegate. Also included was a set of upgraded NGK sparkplugs.
There were two Stage One conversions available - one for the T1 and one for the T2...230BHP and 250 BHP respectively.
As Neil will no doubt echo, Stage One was the best bang for your buck, but there was a whole host of mods available in the Maikoncs literature that take them up to 440BHP, but the cost will escalate very quickly for smallish power gains.

Stage One is brilliant though with 250BHP and 320FT LB. :D

Maikonics converted cars are VERY rare nowadays...I think I'd be safe in saying that you could count the remaining number of cars on your two hands. Shame, as it's a wonderful piece of work that Simon did.

How come Maikonics didn't continue to do them? Must admit, 250bhp & all that lovely torque sounds fantastic :D

I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but a standard turbo2 is fast
enough and the balance of economy to performance should do you Ok
as is. Franklin /Neil fess up to how many clutches brakes and tyres you
end up munching through!? :D

SwissSPEC: gave you driven your White one in anger yet?
I think you'll find it's 'adequete'!

It was made for the car at a place near Louth, Custom performance using powerflow components. It took about a day to make and cost just less than 400 quid a few years ago now.

It has a deep idle but is nice on motorways. And on the dyno ;) at more than twice the motorway limit it is still acceptable.

What can have people running for cover is the screamer pipe and HKS dump valve when its running 2 bar.

My car has the Maikonics conversion done too, it is a means of supressing the overboost and allows the ignition to be retarded to allow more boost.

I'm not sure how your car would cope as it could have lower output injectors than the uk cars, T2's have different injectors to the T1s anyways the T1 being higher output.

Then its a case of fitting a stronger wastegate spring and adjusting the boost to 1 bar.

Mine uses the Maikonics to supress the overboost 'it was the only thing available at the time 'back in 1995/6 there are lots more exotic things available now. I can map the ignition on mine an fuelling is well taken care of ;)

I'm taking the maik stuff off this I think...if I can get off my arse and do something :)

AFAIK, Simon became a victim of his success - many enthusiasts phoned him all day, everyday and I think he got fed up with it - I guess that Neil knows the full story to it.

I was in contact with Simon last year, and he said that he wouldn't be doing any more conversions again.

...Neil's CGAT is a completely different beast to a Stage One Maikonics and is in a different league.
Actually thinking about it, in about 2 years I haven't needed to get a clutch fitted, no ab-normal tyre or brake wear either.

As it's known, if you've got a bit of a dodgy clutch it WILL rip it out but will be OK if you don't hoon it around like a madman - a mod is to fit a diesel clutch though.

Talking of economy, here's a quote from the Maikonics Literature:
Fuel consumption off boost is unaffected, on boost it is as heavy as your right foot!

two AP racing clutches £xxxx each one not enough clamping force the other tore the centre plate in to shreads when the 8 injectorswere fitted, the one in now was hand built by HELIX not cheap but it is lighter in operation than the std Citroen kit but way stronger :) four set of pistons, only on head gasket problem though. One input shaft bearing failure. 3 turbos, one burst intercooler... hmmm driveshafts twisted in the diff, two lower arms bent.

brakes/tyres under control ... not 17 anymore ;)

If the clutch is slightly worn it will give up with the maik kit, A new clutch in a t2 will spin freely if you don't have the pedal fully released before booting it, and become toast very quickly. Diesel clutch not a fix, 3.0 XM will fit it is bigger than the CX

Thanks for the info guy's interesting & very informative. Typical eh, i've got a mk2 & its a mk1 that i needed

Mind you, sounds like a maikonics kit might be for sale shortly

I've not actually driven this car yet, but i have plenty of memories of my dad booting it along alpine passes etc :D I'll be driving a tad more sedatley in order to preserve the beast, its just handy having plenty of performance on tap when overtaking slow buggers.

Its always interesting going from a diesel bx to my cooper s in acceleration :o

Is there much info about lpg conversion of the cx, i think theres a member from scotland who runs a mk1 2 litre with lpg from memory. I was interested to know whether its actualy worth doing bearing in mind the initial outlay is a bit pricey & that lpg costs aren't guaranteed to remain low for the forseable future  From an environmental point of view, it appears to be a good idea & possibly longterm there might be considerable savings, but then again if i'm doing low mileage, that might buy quite a lof of fuel, even if its at over £1.30 a litre

Bit of a hijack... but as the cx club is down and we have a few cxperts in this thread.

Does anyone know if the 2.5 diesel was ever fitted with a bosch pump?

AFAIK it's a RotoDiesel on the DTR if you're planning on veging it!!

Dont know if they made a compatable Bosch pump, its a much earlier pump then the BX/Xantia type.
