Well, thanks to the inclement weather I haven't done much about this since my last post. The vibration has begun to get worse, and is definitely NOT the engine mount, although the gearbox end is still rocking back and forth a little too much for my liking.
It's probably driveshaft or wheel bearing. The car turns right with no problems except the vibration. Turning left is becoming a hair-raising experience, especially in the wet, as the car is understeering quite badly, but with no indication of a problem. It feels as if a strong gust of wind is trying to take the back end round on me.
So, I've given in to temptation and put a deposit on another car. So this one should be gone before I get a chance to sort the problem (sorry Quinny - I'll be no help at all). However, if I'm feeling mildly insane on Saturday, and the weather isn't too bad, I might have a tinker. It'd just be nice to know what the problem is...

The wobble
Very intersting post.
I know exactly what you mean my brother has a 94 405 SRI and overnight exactly the same happened one day ok next the dreaded wobble on right hand corners.
Been up on hoist in workshops and much head scratching from those in the know but no real cures forthcoming.
His wobble is a felt thing thru the seat mainly.
On Aussie frogs there was some mention of drive shaft bearings being the culprit but he has just learnt to live with it at the moment.
Cheers
