I worked on a project towards the end of last year in an ill-lit, mildly damp location a long way from normal civilisation. At the end of the project we stood back and marvelled at our work. A couple of mates took photos of the end results with their iPhones, and I took some final shots with my - now antique - Canon 300D on manual settings (I'd been using the Canon for time-lapse shots whilst we were working). Their iPhone photos looked fantastic - but that's the issue I have with phone cameras...... the location we were in wasn't fantastic. It was ill-lit and mildly damp. My old Canon conveyed what was there, their cameras conveyed a lovely scene. Horses for courses, I suppose.

I remember reading that Zel is often working in the dark :-D

I don't have a camera on my old Nokia phone but your comments here reminded me that I have an LG 'feature phone' that I bought last time I was in the States, it's tied to a US carrier who won't release it from the tie.

I've just had a look at it and despite it having been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years the battery is still holding and the camera still works.

Might stick it in my pocket to use next time I get out.

I have a Pentax Optio VS20 which I mainly use...……….if I remember to take it.

I've never had a go at target shooting. I'm guessing the idea is not to hit the bit in the middle ? :-D

My daughter did five years in the RAF in communications, so guess how surprised I was when putting away her kit when she moved to the USA to find she had a marksman's certificate for sub machine guns.

Improvement on my first day, but it is a bit breezey today so I stuck with Bobin's rule :-D
The target is 5 inches across and I am firing from 65ft, so I am fairly happy with this as I haven't used it for 7 years!!

What are you shooting with? My eldest son bought a stupid powerful airgun a while back that is very accurate and precise, he goes shooting small game with it.
Also has a Glock somethingorother. He used to be in the military, a gunner. I thought that this meant that they gave him a tommy gun to wave around.

Not so, it was one of these:

His driver inadvertently drove it through some farm buildings one day.

Ooooops

Its a 12 year old Norica coil sprung air rifle .22 calibre that I bought in Spain for around 280 euros in 2008. We used to shoot the hell out of my mates figs on his fig trees across his field!! I do have a radio control Chieftain tank which fires BB shot by I haven't had that out for years!! :-D

Didn't a tank or two run on Citroen suspension?
I suppose actually being able to flatten the bumps is an advantage...

Years ago I used to compete in Field Target shooting using a Titan Manitou 0.177 pre-charged air rifle. The valving system was very efficient; a full charge would put out over 70 shots (at 12 foot pounds) with negligible difference between the fastest and slowest shot. The United Kingdom made (and, as far as I know, still makes) some of the finest air rifles in the world. Theoben, for example, used a gas ram cylinder/piston design (based on a motor cycle shock absorber) that accelerated the pellet to muzzle velocity in a very short space of time (which meant they could have a barrel a bit longer then 12", and the rest of the 'barrel' was the integrated silencer.

One of the strangest air rifles I got to try out was the JW50 (developed and made by John Whiscombe from Newbury). Very strange mechanism, but it was VERY effective (and to those people who like mechanical things it is an absolute joy to behold);

There were some Russian ones that did.

That's a self-propelled howitzer, not a tank though.

Richard goes scuba diving and uses his tank of compressed air to charge his rifle with :)
