Re: What is Bashe 5? + Diagbox Info
Currently working with the workaround of plug in wireless adapter, start diagbox, wait for activation, unplug wireless adapter, plug in interface.
Now we have a new problem
So I go into the software, select what car it is, type in the VIN, click to start Lexia aaaand it tells me "An error has occured during authentication (20). If the problem persists. contact the hotline Actia" (what excellent translation).
Googling the error message returns this very thread, I tried Mandrake's trick of unplugging, waiting, plugging back in then launching Lexia ad nauseum but the same error persists.
I also notice that the measurements tab in diagbox also doesn't do anything. It just asks me to connect the measurement card and validate - related problem perhaps?

Re: What is Bashe 5? + Diagbox Info
The measurements tab only does anything if you have the scope/multimeter interface, which is a separate box to the main Lexia interface, so ignore that section. Nobody with a clone Lexia uses this function, it just gives you a basic digital scope and multimeter in software.
Sadly I don't think your workaround will work - on my system if I don't have the interface connected when I first launch Diagbox it will not work later even if I plug it in after launching the app.
Unable to authenticate actually refers to authenticating with the chip in the interface box, and is happening due to not having it connected before launching. Sorry!
A small USB hub is probably your best bet. Depending on how much power your wireless adaptor and Lexia need, you might get away without a separate power adaptor for the hub. The wireless adaptor I linked to only draws 110mA, so if the Lexia draws less than about 350mA (check in device manger under the USB controller) then a standard 500mA USB port may be enough to power them both without a power brick that you would have nowhere to plug in in the car.
If not you could be a bit stuck. No built in wireless and only one USB port is a real handicap I'm afraid...

Re: What is Bashe 5? + Diagbox Info
I wonder if this could be of use?;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Port-USB-2- ... 3a8133c8b4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I had one of these some time back (don't know if I still have it), and it worked well. The card goes into the slot, and a cable links to the original USB port for power (and connects to the port in the middle of the 4 USB sockets). I cannot remember if there was software with it.

Ughh, at least this was a free laptop. I guess I wasn't counting on diagbox being silly.

Re: What is Bashe 5? + Diagbox Info
Could well do James, if Chlorate's laptop supports a PC card slot, however I think I've made some more progress.
I checked my Lexia interface and it only draws 100mA (at least it only requests 100mA from the OS) which means an un-powered USB hub connected to the laptop should be able to power both the Lexia interface and the wireless interface - so that would be one usable solution.
However possibly a better approach is that I've done some testing with the whole no wireless interface issue to see if I could reproduce the problem where it says it requires activation, and I was able to, here's what I found:
If I disable or even uninstall my wireless adaptor (so that it completely disappears from "Network Connections" in control panel on Windows XP) then Diagbox still works ok. However I have two other interfaces - Ethernet and 1394 Connection.
What I've found is that the 1394 connection plays no role whether it is enabled or disabled, however if I disable BOTH my wireless adaptor AND my Ethernet adaptor, launching Diagbox gives: "ACTIVATION: It is necessary to activate the applications in order to be able to use them, you will now activate them" with two buttons Cancel or Automatic activation.
However don't panic! If I choose cancel and quit out of Diagbox then enable either my Ethernet or Wireless adaptor then launch Diagbox it works fine, so this loss of activation is not permanent.
Also it doesn't matter that my Ethernet port is not plugged in to anything, the mere fact of its existence and being enabled is enough for the activation to work in Diagbox - no internet connection required.
Which raises the question - do you not have an Ethernet adaptor in your laptop Chlorate ??? If not, now I can reproduce the issue I might be able to find a dummy or virtual network interface device that you could install to fool it. Let me know, and also confirm whether its Windows XP on the laptop.

Re: What is Bashe 5? + Diagbox Info
How old is the laptop, and what make/model? Is there a network port? It might be worth checking all device drivers are install.
I have been rummaging through my old IT bits and bobs, and found one of these;
http://www.maplin.co.uk/contact-cleaner-4153" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
with both dongles. I don't have the drivers, but it appears they can still be downloaded from Intel (who took over Xircom).

The LAN module in this laptop was broken by its previous owner, I never thought it'd be a problemMandrake wrote: Which raises the question - do you not have an Ethernet adaptor in your laptop Chlorate ??? I did try searching for some kind of virtual network drive software with that very thing in mind, but couldn't find anything. Yes it is Windows XP, TinyXP specifically, professional edition with service pack 3.
Tempted to toddle over to Sainsbury's soon to see if they have a cheapo USB hub.

Re: What is Bashe 5? + Diagbox Info
If it is a module, it might be possible to get a replacement. I hope it is a module, and not built onto the motherboard. Otherwise (unless Simon can work out how to dummy a NIC) the one I have might help.

Broken in what way? I would imagine if its just the port that's broken, then you may still be able to install the drivers so its present, just unusable.Chlorate wrote:The LAN module in this laptop was broken by its previous owner, I never thought it'd be a problemMandrake wrote: Which raises the question - do you not have an Ethernet adaptor in your laptop Chlorate ??? Again, what make and model of laptop? My old Dell had an empty point for a Wi-Fi module, and I was able to get one of e-bay that worked.

Re: What is Bashe 5? + Diagbox Info
Sorry for the lack of responses there!
It's an ancient IBM ThinkPad - powered by the mighty Pentium III processor with a whopping 256MB of RAM. I'm not sure if wifi was even a thing when this was new
But it works, I bought a relatively inexpensive 4 into 1 USB hub plugged in wifi and the comms box and it all played ball. Still need to get a dedicated wifi adapter for the diagnostic machine but that's no trouble.
I'm impressed with Lexia itself, Diagbox is a rediculous pile of w*nk but Lexia is quite nice to use.
Read and cleared my first fault code in the car park this very morning - my intermittent turbocharger back to haunt me
Thanks again all for the assistance, I'm sure Mr. Club Hammer would have been employed without you.
