Can't be certain but I reckon you might have a bit of soot shorting out the commutator there Neil! Give it a squirt of contact cleaner and I'm sure it will be fine

Looking at your photo, I can see a fairly obvious issue. Your starter motor is in pieces on the floor when it should be in the engine bay

Any other problems you need solving - just ask
