Re: Davie's french attraction.
The 407. I was overtaking a lorry, went for kickdown and it lost power, engine management light came on. It drove 25 miles home with eml on and a message on the dash saying fault in emmissions system. I took the dpf off and cleaned it, water would hardly run through it before cleaning, it was cleaned with mr muscle oven cleaner and then water ran through it no problem. However although I got it started it still would not run properly and sounded like a bucket of old nails, it wouldnt pull, even out of the drive. I bought a lexia, charged the battery and have tried to diagnose it on several occasions, but I cant work out the problem. And I did not write down the codes I got either. It had been remapped by a local guy who has gone bust. It ran great after remapping, but I personally think it was a dodgy remap anr that has knackered something, but of course the guy who done it has disappeared. It has now sat about 9 months, my son nicked the battery so it is in need of a battery. The battery in gabby is the same, and was new so I could put that in for another diagnostic. Peugeot want £200 for a diagnostic session!!!! It is not going there. I have asked a few local garages and none of them wants to do it. One said that straight out, others I knew by their attitude they dont want to look at it so it is now forgotten about. I am very near the stage of scrapping it, which will be a pity as its a great long distance cruiser, a lovely drive. However one local scrappy I spoke to, when I was getting parts for my daughters old audi said he didnt want it for a breaker, he would take it for crushing but it would be collect and no money at all changing hands. I really dont know whether to just get rid for peanuts, or hope that a seemingly miracle happens and someone can fix it for not much money. To be honest even if it were to cost upwards of a grand to fix and mot it would be worth it as it would then be worth over 2 grand for selling. I just feel that I could be throwing good money after bad even getting it looked at.

Re: Davie's french attraction.
It's a pain that's it at the opposite end of the country (and I've no room) as I'd not mind having a shot at sorting it...
At some point I do need to think about getting a more sensible daily on fleet, and that would tick all the boxes assuming it's not in a daft tax band. Even though what would it replace? Would probably have to be the Activa, though I'm really loathe to think about that again...took me long enough to choose between shifting it or the Lada last time! ...and that's still here despite the best efforts of several time wasters.

Re: Davie's french attraction.
I would have been very tempted myself Davie as I know a Peugeot tech with all the diagnostic equipment , its just too far for me I'm afraid . I hope you manage to get it running and not broken or crushed as it really does look a nice thing . If you could get the fault codes I could ask the tech if that would help .

I will put a battery in it and give it another go on the lexia and report the codes Mark. At least with a few months without a battery in it, it shall have had a bsi reset! Never know if im lucky (very unlikely) it may go!

Must be worth a try to get it going Davie. They are such good looking cars, I often see a black one while out on my bike, it always makes me think of you.

To my eyes the colour I have is the nicest. The burgundy and cream leather really suits it, Here’s one pic of the Spaniard, only one so far

Re: Davie's french attraction.
Precisely my thinking!
Bit of a shame though at the same time, as I'm pretty sure that with the collective expertise scattered around these parts that it wouldn't prove too hard to resolve the issues.
Assuming that you'd probably be looking at something like £4-500 or so to get a car shipped this far south from up there based on the numbers from last time I had something moved...

Re: Davie's french attraction.
Ive decided I really like my Leon. Really comfortable, nearly at Gabby levels of comfort, and that is high praise indeed. Its doing 55mpg on the trip computer, and this is near enough correct by tank to tank. It takes 600 miles to do a tank though! And as a bonus I now dont have to do 200 to 250 miles a week for work, knocking the car in bits as its mostly in town work. I now have the use of a poxhall combo van owned by the shop for deliveries. Only trouble is that a combo van is horrid. Its seats are like concrete slabs, its noisy, its slow, it rattles, its suspension is non existant, it has a huge turning circle, its just rubbish. Its not even a rough as a badgers butt abused one either. Its a 61 plate 1.3td only covered 77K and in good nick. Its also signwritten so I have to behave in it. At least it saves my car from abuse though. I will not really do many private miles myself now, so I do need a fleet reduction.
I had a guy look at the 205 today. I answered his local ad that he is looking for a good condition 3 door 305 for a project build he is planning. He owns a mint 205 rallye, a lovely thing in yellow, and has just finished a 2.0 turbo tct 205 with a tuned engine, upgraded camshaft, pistons, turbo polished valves he thought it would be about 230bhp, mental in a 205! He then sold it. He has also done what my son in law is doing, a honda civic type r ep20 engine and box i to a 205. That is Shauns civic mot fail big time rot going i to out old 1.6gti, a long term project. Thats mental too. This guy was looking for a car about £700 to strip and rebuild with another tct. Theres no way he is getting my one for 700. My bottom price is as advertised on this forum, £1250. However he doesn't want the 14" gti alloys so a price reduction is availabel if I keep them and sell it on the 13" steels. Bottom line £1100. He wants it, he says its the cleanest 205 he has ever seen, and he has had 14! I dont really know if I wast to sell it to get torn to bits, but Im not that sentimental and if he or anyone else comes up with the cash I am happy.
The xantia has had her roof and bonnet painted black, and first coat of a slightly brighter colour than its faded dante red on the rest of her. Im hoping she gets a second coat this week, then gets submitted for a mot. Theres a lot of iffs and butts, but if she spectacularly fails and I dont sell the 205 I fanct the udea of an xud turbo powered manual 205. The guy I was speaking to today says thets a known conversion in 205 land, and having the complete xantia doner means I have most if not all the parts I need. That is apart from the ability from me!
The 407 still broken, if and when I sell lilpug then I am going to get her fixed. I think my preferred options now is keep the Leon, which will become the spare family car between my daughters and I, note the lack of adding my son on it, and keep the 407 once it is going, and sell everything else.

Re: Davie's french attraction.
Great to read a good, detailed update from you Davie
I'd be very reluctant to let the 205 go to be modded and indeed I'd be very reluctant to mod it in any way... Good, original autos are rare...
Looking forward to seeing Gabby in her new paint
I'm sure she'll be OK on the MOT... Watching with great interest...
Personally, I'd get shot of that 407 and keep the 205...
I trust your health is good nowadays?

Re: Davie's french attraction.
My health is passable just now Jim, its never going to be good but if it never gets worse than just now I can cope with it. I dont think you will see me at a gathering near you again, unless I fly down, i think my limits would be the central belt of Scotland nowadays.I have just been offered the full asking price for the 205, I know it is going to be modded, but I have decided it is going. The big question about the back up car to the Leon is Gabby versus big pug. I think Gabby will probably win it, although the 407 will now get investigated and I will keep it a wee while, just to see if I can trust it again. Gabby is the most comfortable thing if I am doing longer journeys and far cheaper to fuel doing 50mpg compared to 30 and running 50/50 veg/derv with derv here being £1.40 a litre and new veg at 74p.

The only rallies I made it to this year was the Chevrons and the Festival of the Unexceptional as both were within cycling range!
Next year also... At least we can keep in touch on here and on Facebook

Re: Davie's french attraction.
Well something is happening which may well allow me to get down to a gathering next year. My sister has just landed a new job, which is thking her from the Orkney Islands to Galashields. That could make a good stopover/rest area for me in the Scottish borders. That would take me off the M74 where I have had a tendancy to cover the 100 plus miles ot it in less than an hour, but that was when I had an activa or a vts
