Grey 308 SW:
MOT success - quick chat with the tester who's mentioned the bit of an oil leak (which I'm hopeful the new oil cooler gasket set should sort) but have come away with a clean pass.

Blue 308 SW:
IF I'm permitted to repair it, a front and rear passenger door look to be around £150-£200 each and a fair few Magnetic Blue ones on eBay so that would be ideal. Added to "Watched items" list for the moment awaiting the assessment.

Copart have responded and said they'd keep the car aside for potential buy back if that's where we end up. Quite positive to be honest, haven't heard good things about Copart so am pleased they engaged with me on that front.
Can't remember if I've said: collection booked in for a week today. I can empty the car over the weekend.
Not car shopping just yet but a bit of "window shopping"

Most excellent news Matt, things are looking up . If you can by the car back and you have worked out the cost of the repair then your time is the labor charge then the cars back .

Early days yet, the insurer may repair your car. You could always ask them to use used parts if it helps to get them to repair it. However, if the insurance writes the car off as uneconomic to repair and you keep it plus some cash, then it could be valued at scrap until you can prove it has been repaired. I did this in about 1985 when our Maxi was uneconomic to repair by the insurance. Somebody drove in to the back of it whilst parked at a relatives since they did not see it as they had not de-iced their windscreen before setting off. I kept the car, they gave me about £500, valued it at £50 scrap. I repaired it with parts from a scrap yard and then they were happy with a new MOT. The cash went on a trailer tent.

Still hopeful on getting the car back to fix, I suspect 2 new doors fitted and painted would put it into "uneconomic" territory, but remain hopeful a buy back and fix it myself route forwards isn't snatched from my grasp!

Going to empty the car (in case it's not coming back - and as instructed) and I want to have a closer look at the sill. Will take a picture of my two pieces of "peeled" door skin for your amusement too

No danger of that! don't look a gift horse in the mouth and all that, but it's not the car for me!

Notable features: quite flat, quite firm seats. Engine response is odd, a bit like there's a delay on pushing the pedal to actually waking the engine up. That might be years of experience with torque-y diesels showing up the lack of anything at low RPM on a little 3 cylinder petrol.

No spare, but a big polystyrene nonsense under the boot floor that looks at least similar to a space saver depth.

Speak of wheels despite 17" wheels with huge 65 profile tyres it thumps over the bumps.

Interior lights are interesting "touch operation, no switch just metal rim to the light giving cycle through off - on - dim.

Steering wheel quite a thin rim which I like.

Sit up high which I know some people love but does nothing for me.

Will see how it takes to the motorway commute next week.
