As we've stumbled onto a theme I will have to put up my favourite female voice:

and as you know only too well my favourite group:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I suppose that this is mandatory then.

I will admit that although I have heard of it, I have never heard it before.

Never realised that she had recorded this.

I see she recovered from C-19. Surprising, considering her health problems.

Anyone read the book it is based on?

You're not alone there Steve re Purple Rain, I hadn't listened to it before either, and I probably won't again! :-D

I'd rather have this:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Not sure which book you are referring to there Steve, as far as I can see Malvina Reynolds wrote the song as part of a campaign against nuclear testing because the testing was releasing Strontium-90 into the atmosphere which was dissolving into the rain and getting into children's bones and teeth via the water supply. I assume there was a book about that but I cannot find a link? :?: :? :)

Brainfart.
I was sure that I had read a book that Malvina Reynolds had based her song on but can't remember or find what it was.
I did think it might be "And No Birds Sing" but that was a poem, and also the base of an art project I was assigned, subsequently assigned to the incinerator and best place for it.

I too will not be listening to Purple Rain ever again. The mastery of Prince passed me by completely.

Another Happy Rhodes cover, this time of a Peter Gabriel song. I like Happy's version best.

Very much on the theme of the unobtainable Hendrix "1983..."

Happy is an unusual woman and explains some of the reactions to her here

I have just found this in the British Library catalogue and it was published at the right time. Could it be the one you were thinking of?:
Dietary Levels of Strontium-90 and Cesium-137. A summary of world information.
L. J MIDDLETON
Rome, 1962.

No, it was a description of a number of things with an environmental impact and one of the effects was the reduction in the amount of songbirds. Also acid rain which was the association with the song - in my distorted mind anyway.

I was delighted to see the army were going to promote Captain Tom as I couldn't think of a better reason to post this track, which is best listened to through headphones, but I didn't expect them to skip a rank or two and make him a Colonel (Honorary). Nevertheless I thought I'd post it anyway:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
