The cable connected is the wire that gives it 12v when you turn the key. From the starter it will go to engine ECU.
This is what I use for a job like that, The battery is a AA for scale. You can use a long length of wire from battery positive.
MAKE SURE THE GEARBOX IS IN NEUTRAL BEFORE TRYING THIS
Missing fuse module nut, what size is it?

I get it now, thanks for your patience Steve. I was about to use a cable like the one you've shown above but then I wondered if it'd melt with so many amps going through it? I just don't see any other way to secure a live cable to that post unless I can loosen the bolt and trap a piece of wire in there.Steve Walsh wrote: 30 Jan 2025, 20:03 That's the one, that energises the solenoid / starter. The one with blue on becomes live when the small one receives 12v. the one on the right is 12v from battery
I put in neutral as soon as I got it secured on axle stands.

I get a nice spark as I touch the leads together but nothing else. I have given the starter a whack, although not a very big one because there is no room to do so. Looks like I'll need to remove it, test it on the bench and replace if necessary. Total bäll ache but it's going to have to be done.

Made a start on an attempt to remove the starter motor tonight.........what a 'mare!!
Can't barely see what I need to and even by feeling for the bolts I have no idea how I'm going to get them out. I'll have another go at it tomorrow but I'm feeling a bit stuck. I've watched 3 or 4 videos already but none of the engines look like mine. This is going to be a real mission but one I really could do without.

Re: Missing fuse module nut, what size is it?
Just to update, I gave up on the starter removal. Got the small u-bend exhaust piece off from the DPF to get access but failed to find any way to remove two of the three bolts holding the starter on. Even if I could feel my way to removing them I'd need a flexible cable on a ratchet to get them off and I don't have one.
I've got two Morris Minors that need my attention so I am parting the GP out and hope I recover a bit of my money.
I might actually remove the engine first, remove the starter and test it, just to be sure that is what failed, and then think about putting the engine back in. Does seem a shame to break it because there is really nothing wrong with the rest of the car.
Anyway, just wanted to let Steve know and thank him for his support up to now.
