Impossible to check now but I think that the rear socket in my C5 estate was permanently live to accommodate a refrigerator.
That I imagine would have killed the battery fairly quickly.

You have a later model 163 - this engine has major differences over the 2 previous versions DW10BTED4 including air & fuel systems for starters and does indeed have different wiring and operation of the 12V lighter sockets.

Facelift models are different and so was the latest C5 X7 towards the end of production run with different fascia, telematics and and DW10FD engine.

My old 2010 X7 estate the rear socket was definitely permanently live, i remember this as i actually fitted a voltage sensing relay to it so it would only be live with the engine running.
The only thing i ever used it for was a plug in cool box for long journeys, i done this so that i wouldn’t need to remember to switch it off if i was stopping off somewhere. As said above a cool box draws quite a hefty current so will flatten a car battery pretty quickly.

Maybe this new circuit diagram is suitable for MattBLancs's car?
Will try and investigate operation of my sockets, likely the weekend before I will get chance. :)
